Cotton Grower® magazine’s CROP SCAN AgReport for early May shows planters are beginning to roll in most parts of the Cotton Belt as temperatures rise, but wet weather is putting a damper on planting progress in the upper Mid-South. Cotton is up in south and central Texas, while west Texas growers still need more moisture than some recent showers have provided.

Enrollment Open for the Texas International Cotton School

Enrollment for the 40th session of the Texas International Cotton School, scheduled for August 2- 12, 2021, in Lubbock, Texas is now open. Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and the class size has been restricted to 10 students this year, first come, first serve basis of full tuition payment.

Water efficient practices important as drought persists

May 06, 2021 As drought conditions persist, High Plains Underground Water Conservation District (HPWD) encourages area residents to incorporate water-efficient practices into their landscapes to avoid water waste. Landscape irrigation and outdoor water use may account for 50 to 80 percent of total residential use during spring and summer.

Final Auxin Certification Training set for May 14th

Several auxin certification trainings have already been conducted in 2021 and the final training session is set to take place next week, Friday, May 14. These satisfy the US Environmental Protection Agency mandatory dicamba training and the Texas Department of Agriculture requirement for approved dicamba and 2, 4-D formulations.

Christina Clark honored as 2021 Teacher of Year

Christina Jones Clark, daughter of William and Faye Jones of Amherst, was recently honored as one of the 2020-2021 Duncanville High School “Teachers of the Year”. She was awarded a plaque and recognized at the Duncanville ISD 2021 Employee Appreciation Celebration.

Five Area and West Plains award eight scholarships

Five Area Telephone and West Plains Telecommunications have awarded eight $2,000 scholarships to students continuing their education at an accredited vocational school, college or university. The Board of Directors of Five Area/West Plains selected the scholarship winners at the board meeting held on April 29, 2021.
