Five Area Telephone and West Plains Telecommunications have awarded eight $2,000 scholarships to students continuing their education at an accredited vocational school, college or university.

The Board of Directors of Five Area/West Plains selected the scholarship winners at the board meeting held on April 29, 2021. These scholarships are awarded to high school seniors who reside in one of the telephone exchanges served by the Companies, that wish all of the scholarship recipients the best in the future endeavors.

The scholarship recipients are: Maribel Gomez is from Lazbuddie High School, the daughter of Carlos and Rosalinda Perea. Maribel plans to use her scholarship to study Kinesiology at South Plains College.

Morton High School’s, Jackson Greener, is the son of Russell and Shannon Greener. Jackson plans to pursue a career in Videography at Texas Tech University.

Destiny Florez, from Muleshoe High School, is the daughter of Johnny and Michelle Florez. Des-tiny plans to pursue a career as a Radiology Tech at Tarrant County College.

Muleshoe High School’s, Katelyn Kelley, is the daughter of John & Belle Kelley. Katelyn plans to study Animal Science at Blinn College.

Declan Lowe, the son of Travis and Micki Lowe, is from Olton High School. Declan’s plans are to use his scholarship to study Environmental Engineering at Texas Tech University.

Ethan Acosta, from Springlake/ Earth High School, is the son of Jennifer Acosta. Ethan plans on attending Texas Tech University to study Business Administration.

Sudan High School’s, ZoeyCantu, plans to use her scholarship to pursue a career in Primary/ Secondary Teaching. Zoey will attend Lubbock Christian University. She is the daughter of Joe and Laura Cantu.

Melanie Bihl, from Whiteface High School, is the daughter of Larry and Michelle Bihl. She plans to use her scholarship to study Business at South Plains College.
