The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team went on the road and took down the Dimmitt Bobbie, 3-0, in their second meeting of district play on Friday.
With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 4-1 in district play.
Sophomore, Julie Bownds, opened set one with a kill off of Jazlyn Rodriguez, but junior, Madison McNeese, sent a hit out of bounds on the next play to tie the set, 1-1. Marium Monreal served up an ace off of McNeese and
Mariah Marmolejo followed it up with a kill in the back row to extend the Dimmitt lead to, 1-3.
Alondra Velo sent a hit out of bounds for the Bobbies to end the rally and senior, Ashtyn Parker, delivered a kill that was dug out by Michelle Ontiveros, but the ball sailed into the net for a Lady Cat point, making the score, 3-3.
Dimmitt was called for a double hit and senior, Julie Rodriguez, served up an ace to put the Lady Cats in front, 5-3. Parker delivered a kill that Ontiveros couldn’t dig and sophomore, Kyndal Edgemon, delivered a kill off of Monreal to make the score, 7-3.
Parker kept the rally going with a kill in front of Haylee Melendez, but on the next play, the rally ended, as a tip by senior, Brynna Ray, did not make it over the net, sending the serve back over to the Bobbies.
Senior, Danielle Zapata, touched the net on a tip, but on the next play, Edgemon delivered a kill between Melendez and Marmolejo to make the score, 9-5. Ontiveros sent a hit out of bounds for Dimmitt and McNeese followed it up with a kill between Melendez and Marmolejo, making the score, 11- 5.
Monreal was called for a double hit, but the Bobbies recovered, as Littlefield was called for four hits, trimming the lead to, 12-6. Dimmitt couldn’t capitalize, as Alondra Velo’s serve was out of bounds and Ontiveros was blocked by Edgemon and McNeese on the next play for a kill, making the score, 14-6.
Zapata served up an ace in front of Jazlyn Rodriguez, and Edgemon followed it up with a kill off of Monreal, extending their lead to 16-6. Junior, Kaeleigh Logan, sent a hit into the net for Littlefield, sparking a three-point rally for the Bobbies. But it was ended when a hit by Logan was hit out of bounds by Marmolejo, making the score, 17-9.
A kill by K’mree Nino was tipped out of bounds by McNeese and Logan, but Bownds answered with a kill on the sideline to push their lead out to, 18-10. Bownds followed it up with a tip over Milee Thomas for a kill, as Dimmitt took a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, McNeese’s serve was short of the net, but the Lady Cats recovered on the next play, as Logan delivered a kill off of Na’Khiyah Porras to extend their lead to, 20-11. Ray’s serve went unreturned and she followed it up with an ace on her next serve to make the score, 22-11.
McNeese delivered a kill past Ontiveros and Marmolejo was called for touching the net on the next play, making the score, 24-11. Senior, Emily Champion, had a hit tipped out of bounds by Porras to end the set, 25-11, putting the Lady Cats up, 1-0, in the match.
In set two, Zapata dropped in a tip for a kill to open things up and Edgemon followed it up with a kill off of Monreal to make the score, 2-0. Ray sent a hit into the net and Marmolejo followed it up with an ace off of Ray to tie the set, 2-2.
Parker tipped the net for a kill and Ariathna Lopez senta hit into the net, extending the lead to, 4-2. Monreal was called for a double hit and a tip by McNeese was blocked by Ontiveros, but it rolled on the net, before falling in for a Littlefield point, making the score, 6-2. Jazlyn Rodriguez was called for a double hit and Edgemon followed it up with a kill off of the block by Monreal and Velo, stretching their lead to, 8-2.
Littlefield picked up another kill on the next play, as Dimmitt took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, sophomore, Kennadi Hanlin sent a serve out of bounds, making the score, 9-3, as the serve went over to the Bobbies.
Monreal hit the roof with a hit, and the play was ruled out of bounds, the Bobbies answered with a kill on the next play that was tipped out of bounds by Julie Rodriguez, making the score, 10- 4. Porras served up an ace for Dimmitt, but Edgemon responded with a kill to regain the serve for Littlefield.
Porras had a tip blocked by McNeese for a kill, but on the next play a kill by senior, Gideon Bramwell, landed out of bounds, making the score, 12-6. A kill by McNeese landed out of bounds and Ontiveros followed it up with an ace to cut the lead to, 12-8, before her next serve was short of the net, making the score, 13-8.
Marmolejo had a kill, tipped at the net by Bownds, before falling in for a kill, but Parker answered on the next play with a tip for a kill to make the score, 14-9. Velo sent a hit into the net, but the Lady Cats couldn’t capitalize, as Ray sent her serve into the net, making the score, 15-10. Marmolejo tipped the net for a kill, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, Monreal’s serve was out of bounds to make the score, 16-11. The teams exchanged points, before Parker sent a kill past Melendez and Jazlyn Rodriguez sent a hit into the net for Dimmitt, stretching the lead to, 19-12. Littlefield would go on to close out the set on a, 6-2, scoring run, taking set two, 25-14, putting them up, 2-0, in the set.
The Lady Cats opened set three on a, 3-0, scoring run, before Ray sent a serve short of the net. They would regain the serve on the next play, as McNeese scored a kill off of Melendez, making the score, 4- 1. The play sparked another rally for Littlefield, as Julie Rodriguez served up back-to-back aces, before Parker sent a hit into the net, turning the serve back over to Dimmitt with the score, 6-2.
Velo was called for a double hit, but a hit by the Lady Cats on the next play landed out of bounds, making the score, 7-3. Edgemon scored back-to-back kills for Littlefield and McNeese followed it up with a kill off of the block attempt from Thomas, making the score, 10-3. Dimmitt sent back-toback hits into the net, but the Lady Cat rally ended when a tip by McNeese didn’t make it over the net, making the score, 12-4.
Champion sent a hit into the net for Littlefield and Porras’ serve was not returned on the next play, making the score, 12-6, but McNeese responded with a kill off of the block by Thomas and Thomas was called for a double hit on the next play, making the score, 14-6.
McNeese sent a tip into the net and Marmolejo followed it up with a tip on the back row for a kill to cut the lead to, 14-8. But, Ontiveros’ serve sailed out of bounds and Abigail Ybarbo followed it up with back-to-back aces, as the Bobbies took a time out to talk things over, with the score, 17-8.
Out of the break, Parker dropped in a tip for a kill, but the rally ended when Marmolejo delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Logan. Champion and Parker sent hits out of bounds for Littlefield, but Parker responded with a kill in front of Ontiveros, making the score, 19- 11
Ḋimmitt would string together a run to cut the score to, 24-17, after a kill by Edgemon sailed out of bounds, but on the next play, Monreal hit the roof with a hit ending the set with a score, 25-17, giving Littlefield the match, 3-0.
The Lady Cats were on the road on Saturday for their first meeting with the Brownfield Lady Cubs. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday with a home game against Lamesa for senior night.
