Mustangs shutout Eagles on the road, 40-0

The Olton Mustangs opened their season on the road last Friday, as they blasted the Roosevelt Eagles, 40-0.

With the win the Mustangs open their 2026 campaign 1 0.

Senior running back, Jett Tomsu, got the scoring going in the opening quarter, breaking loose for a 74-yard touchdown run. The PAT by Santi Jimenez was no good, leaving the score, 6-0.

In the second frame, Brady Azam connected with Alex Green for a 13-yard touchdown pass that was followed with the PAT from Jimenez to extend their lead to, 13-0. Olton kept the scoring going as Azam hit Zayden Falcon for a 34-yard touchdown pass. The twopoint conversion attempt was no good, leaving the score, 19-0.

Later in the quarter, the defense got in on the scoring, as Aiden Alderson scooped up a fumble and returned it for a touchdown. The PAT by Jimenez was good, pushing their lead to, 26-0. Azam would strike through the air one more time before halftime, as he found Rylan Holmes for a 39-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good, as Olton took a, 33-0, lead into the locker room at halftime.

Neither team scored in the third quarter, but in the final frame, Callen Burns broke free for a 38-yard touchdown run, followed by the PAT from Jimenez, as Olton took the contest, 40-0.

Olton tallied 397 yards of total offense, including 247 yards rushing and 150 yards passing.

Azam finished the game 13-25 passing for 150 yards and three touchdowns.

Callen Burns led the rushing attack with 14 carries for 115 yards and one score, while Tomsu added five carries for 84 yards and one touchdown. Wyatt Francis had one carry for 35 yards.

Falcon led all receivers with three catches for 65 yards and one touchdown, while Holmes chipped in six catches for 59 yards and a score and Green contributed thre catches for 24 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, the Mustangs held the Eagles to just 74 yards of offense, led by Rigo Galvan, who tallied 10 total tackles, including one for loss. Nathan Craig chipped in nine total tackles, three for loss, while Emmitt Nelson contributed eight tackles, one for loss.

Tomsu tallied six tackles, one for loss and Cesar Ceballos finished with five tackles, one for loss. Green finished with four tackles and an interception, while Alderson had a fumble recovery return for a touchdown.
