Lady Cats drop five set heart-breaker to Post, 2-3

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team dropped a heart-breaker in Post last week, as they fell to the Lady Lopez in five sets, 2-3.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 3-10 overall on the year.

The Lady Cats got off to a slow start in set one, falling behind 1 -7, before Zailey Perez tipped a ball into the net to make the score, 2-7.

The teams went back-andforth, as Littlefield battled back to tie the set, 10-10, after a hit from Amaris Abraham went into the net, but on the next play, a bad set by Faith Balderas was hit into the net by Rylee Miller, making the score, 10-11, as Post regained the serve.

After some more backand- forth, Maggie McNeese delivered a kill off of Amber ly Garza to cut the lead to, 1416, but a kill attempt by Anna Vargas sailed out of bounds to make the score, 14-17. The Lady Cats would keep the set close, but fell short in the end, after a tip from Soffi Scott was tipped by McNeese on a block attempt before landing for a kill to close out set one, 23-25.

Post jumped out to an, 02, lead in set two, before Garza sent a kill sailing out of bounds to make the score, 1-2. A serve from Balderas fell short of the net, sparking a rally for Post that ended when Perez had a hit fall short of the net, pushing their lead to, 3-6.

Post sent a pair of kill attempts sailing out of bounds and McNeese followed it up with an ace off of Perez to tie the set, 6-6. Mattie Seymore delivered a kill, as Post took a time out to talk things over, trailing, 7-6. Out of the break, a dig by McNeese was tipped over the net by Miller for a kill and a kill attempt from Perez landed out of bounds on the next play, making the score, 9-6.

Post would not go away, tying the set a few plays later with an ace from Perez that went out of bounds off of Abby Rodriguez, knotting the game, 9-9. The Lady Lopes would rally for three more points, before Perez sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 10-12. However, a serve from Anaei Ojeda fell short of the net, as Post scored back-to-back points, before Amaris Abraham sent a hit into the net to make the score, 11 14.

Post would extend their lead to five points, before Amaris Abraham sent a serve sailing out of bounds for the Lady Lopes, making the score, 13-17. Scott would regain possession for Post with a kill in front of Ojeda, but the next serve from Hannah Abraham fell short of the net, making the score, 14-18.

McNeese delivered a kill off of Rylee Hernandez, but the next serve from Balderas landed out of bounds on the sideline, extending the Post lead to, 15-19. A serve from Garza fell short of the net for Post, and Seymore followed it up with a kill over the block attempt by Scott to make it a two-point game, 17-19.

After a kill by Perez, Seymore answered with three consecutive kills for the Lady Cats to tie the game, 20-20. A dig by Perez was killed at the net by Miller and she followed it up with a kill in front of Garza on the next play to give Littlefield a, 2220, lead.

Amaris Abraham tipped a ball over the net for Post that went out of bounds off of McNeese, but Miller responded with a kill in the back corner to regain the serve for Littlefield.

Seymore kept it going with a kill off of Perez and on the next play, a tip by Miller was hit back over the net by Perez, but landed out of bounds, as the Lady Cats evened the match, 1-1.

Set three was tightly contested all the way through, but with the score tied, 2323, Seymore sent a serve short of the net and Miller was blocked by Scott for a kill, as Post regained the advantage in the match, 1-2, taking the set, 23-25.

Littlefield started set four in an, 0-3, hole, before Scott sent a hit sailing out of bounds for Post. The Lady Lopes would regain the serve, as Garza had a tip fall in for a kill, but McNeese answered with a kill past Garza to cut the lead in half, 2-4. A few plays later, Littlefield would tie the set, as a kill from Miller was tipped out of bounds by Post, making the score, 6-6.

Post would take advantage of some Littlefield miscues, before Hernandez sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 7-9. The Lady Cats could not capitalize, as Seymore sent a serve short of the net, sparking another three-point rally for the Lady Lopes. Littlefield took a time out, and out of the break, Scott dropped in a tip for a kill to make the score, 7-12.

Amaris Abraham’s next serve fell short of the net, but, again, the Lady Cats could not capitalize, as Vargas sent a hit into the net, giving the serve back to Post with the score, 8-13. Post would stretch the lead out to, 11-17, before a long dig by Seymore was tipped into the net by Hernandez for a Littlefield point.

After miscues by both teams, Seymore delivered a kill off of Perez, and on the following play, Amaris Abraham sent a hit into the net, cutting the lead to, 1519. Post took a time out to talk things over, and out of the break, Perez and Hernandez sent back-toback hits off of the mark for the Lady Lopes and Miller followed it up with a kill off of Perez to slice the lead to, 18-19.

Hannah Abraham and Hernandez each sent hits off of the mark, as Post took a time out to talk things over with the score tied, 20-20. Out of the break, Ojeda served up an ace on the sideline and Miller followed it up with a kill off of Garza to push their lead to, 22-19.

Garza delivered a kill in front of McNeese to end the rally and a kill attempt by Seymore landed out of bounds on the sideline to cut the Littlefield lead to, 22-21. Balderas sent a tip into the net, but Post couldn’t take advantage, as a serve from Hernandez fell short of the net, making the score, 23-22.

Garza delivered a kill off of Vargas, but on the next play, Hannah Abraham had a tip land out of bounds on the sideline to make the score, 24-23. Rodriguez delivered a kill on the back row to close out the set, 25-23, and even the match 2-2.

The Lady Cats fought hard in the tie-breaker set, but ultimately fell to the Lady Lopes, 11-15, as Post took the match, 2-3.
