The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell to the Idalou Lady Cats on Monday in straight sets, 0-3, at Wildcat Gym in Littlefield.
With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 1-3 overall on the season.
McKenna Nodine was called for a double hit to open set one, but Kayla Johnson followed it up with a kill off of Emily Champion to tie the set, 1-1. Ashtyn Parker was blocked by Idalou for a kill, but she answered on the next play with a kill to tie the set, 2-2.
Julie Bownds sent a serve over the net, and the Idalou return was outside of the foul pole, putting the Lady Cats up, 3-2. Brynna Ray set Parker up for a kill to extend the lead to, 4-2, but Bownds’ next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 4-3. Johnson sent a hit out of bounds for Idalou, but Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as Madison McNeese had a hit land just outside the side boundary line, making the score, 5-4.
Johnson sent a serve over the back line for Idalou, but Idalou recovered for three consecutive points, including an ace from Madison Holmes. Idalou was blocked by McNeese and Kyndal Edgemon for a kill to tie the set, 7-7, and Johnson sent a hit out of bounds to put Littlefield back in front, 8-7. Champion served up an ace off of Aniston Patschke, but Hailey Vanbeekum dropped in a tip over McNeese and Kaeleigh Logan for a kill to cut the Littlefield lead to one point, 9-8.
McNeese couldn’t get the dig off of a save from Idalou, as they tied the set, 9-9. Vanbeekum dropped in a tip over Logan for a kill and Kennadi Hanlin was called for a double hit, putting Idalou in front, 11-9. Nodine sent a hit over McNeese and Bownds for a kill and McNeese sent a hit into the net for Littlefield, pushing the Idalou lead to, 9-13.
Littlefield took a time out to talk things over, and out of the break, Bownds dropped a kill in front of the block attempt from Vanbeekum and Nodine, trimming the lead to, 10-13. Nodine answered for Idalou with a kill in front of McNeese and a long by Champion off of the serve from Vanbeekum was killed at the net by Johnson, making the score, 10-15.
Johnson sent a kill past Danielle Zapata, but Parker answered with a kill off of Holmes, making the score, 11-16. Johnson sent a kill between Champion and McNeese and then blocked Bownds for a kill to extend their lead to, 11-18. Idalou turned the serve over to Littlefield, as Kylee Sollis sent a serve out of bounds and Bownds followed it up with an ace in front of Giovanna Payan to cut the lead to, 13-18.
Parker was called for touching the net on a kill attempt and Champion sent a hit into the net on the next play, making the score, 13-20, as Littlefield called a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Nodine’s serve was short of the net, but Idalou responded, as Johnson delivered a kill off of Champion and Sloane Light followed it up with a kill off of Champion to extend their lead to, 14-22.
Johnson was called for stepping on the serve line and McNeese followed it up with a tip that was hit out of bounds by Johnson, making the score, 16-22. Vanbeekum scored a kill off of Tricia Torres and Littlefield was called for touching the net, before Light delivered an ace to end the set, 16-25.
In set two, Sollis opened things up with an ace for Idalou, but Parker answered for Littlefield with a kill in front of the block attempt by Johnson, tying the set, 1-1. Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as Bownds sent a serve over the back line. Edgemon sent a hit into the net, but Idalou turned the serve right back over to Littlefield, as Nodine’s serve sailed over the back line, making the score, 2-3.
Johnson tipped the net with a hit off of the serve from Hanlin, but the ball landed out of bounds to tie the set, 3-3. Light sent a kill past Hanlin to regain the lead for Idalou, and Johnson’s serve was hit out of bounds by Littlefield, making the score, 3-5. Johnson served up an ace off of Ray, but she stepped on the serve line during her following serve, trimming the lead to, 4-6, as the serve returned to Littlefield.
Johnson sent a kill over the back line, but McNeese delivered a block at the net and was called for a double hit on the play, making the score, 6-7. A tip by Vanbeekum landed out of bounds for Idalou, but Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as McNeese sent a hit sailing over the back line to make the score, 7-8.
Idalou would rally for 11 points, before Logan dropped in a tip for a kill to make the score, 8-19. Johnson sent a kill past Champion, but Giovanna Payan sent her serve short of the net, making the score, 9-20. A tip by Nodine was dug by Zapata, but the ball landed out of bounds extending the Idalou lead to, 9-21.
Littlefield rallied for three consecutive points before Bownds sent a serve out of bounds to make the score, 12-22. Parker sent a kill past Johnson’s block try, but a bad hit by McNeese on the next play sent the serve right back to Idalou with the score, 13-23. Johnson served up back-to-back aces to end the set, 13-25, putting Idalou up, 0-2 in the match.
Johnson had a hit tipped at the net by Bownds, before it fell in for a kill. Littlefield bounced back, as Ray set Bownds for a kill off of the block attempt by Johnson, tying the set, 1-1. Parker dropped in a tip for a kill to give Littlefield the lead, but it was short-lived, as Bownds’ next serve was short of the net, making the score, 2-2.
Nodine sent a serve over the back line, but she responded with a kill for Idalou to keep the set tied, 3-3. Johnson sent a serve short of the net and a save by McNeese on the next play, floated over the net and was hit out of bounds by Sollis, extending the Littlefield lead to, 5-3. Idalou scored a kill off of Champion and on the following play, Vanbeekum dropped in a tip for a kill to tie the set, 5-5.
Littlefield would take advantage of back-to-back miscues by Idalou, followed up with a kill from McNeese to stretch their lead to, 8-5, before a bad set by Zapata was too close to the net for McNeese to play, making the score, 8-6. Logan sent a ball out of bounds and Nodine followed it up with a kill off of the block attempt by Bownds tying the set, 8-8.
Littlefield called for a time out and out of the break, McNeese sent a tip through the block attempt of Vanbeekum and Sollis pushing their lead to, 9-8. McNeese’s serve on the next play was short of the net and Idalou capitalized on back-to-back miscues by Littelfield, before Payan sent a serve out of bounds, making the score, 10-11.
Ray served up an ace in front of Patschke, but Idalou answered as Johnson sent a kill off of Champion and Bownds sent a kill out of bounds, pushing Idalou’s lead to, 11-13. Sollis sent a serve short of the net, but Idalou rallied for six consecutive points, making the score, 12-19.
Light was blocked by Parker and Edgemon for a kill, but Johnson answered with a kill for Idalou to make the score, 13-20. Johnson sent a serve sailing over the back line, and Edgemon sent a tip over the net for a kill on the sideline, making the score, 15-20.
Vanbeekum delivered a kill over Edgemon and Holmes served up an ace off of Torres, making the score, 15-22. McNeese dropped in a kill off of the set from Zapata and Idalou sent a hit out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 17-22.
Idalou would go on to close out the set on a, 2-3 scoring run to take the set, 19-25, and the match, 0-3.
The Lady Cats hosted Ropes on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will be hosting a tournament Thursday through Saturday. Pool play begins Thursday for the Lady Cats when they take on Dimmitt at 1 p.m. in the new gym. Bracket play will begin Saturday.
