The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fought back to win their home match-up with the Tulia Lady Hornets on Tuesday night, 3 sets to 1.
They dropped the first set, 21- 25, but in set two, Brynna Ray got the Lady Cats going with back-to-back aces off of Savannah Jack and Zoe Balderas, to put the Lady Cats in front, 2-0. Allie Ramirez dropped in a kill on the back line for Tulia to get them on the board and a tip by Ramirez on the next play was tipped at the net by Ashtyn Parker and hit out of bounds by Julie Bownds, tying the set, 2-2.
Bownds sent a kill out of bounds to give Tulia their first lead of the set and Jeslyn Chasco followed it up with an ace to extend their lead to, 2-4. Ramirez’s sent a hit over the net, that was hit out of bounds by Emily Champion and the Lady Cats were called for an illegal hit on the following play to make the score, 2-6, as Head Coach Claire Head called a time out to talk things over with her team.
Out of the break, Littlefield regained the serve and Bownds’ serve was ht out of bounds by the Lady Hornets to cut the lead to, 4-6. Bownds followed it up with an ace, but they couldn’t keep therally going on the next play, as Parker sent a hit into the net to make the score, 5-7.
A serve by Kaleigh Franco tipped the net for an ace and her next serve was broke by Champion, but her break floated back over the net where it was killed by Ramirez, making the score, 5-9. Tulia would turn the serve over to Littlefield, as Franco sent her serve sailing over the back line.
Kennadi Hanlin sent a serve over the net, but a long break by Tulia fell in between the net and Madison McNeese for a kill, making the score, 6-10. Ramirez’s serve was returned out of bounds by Littlefield, but the Lady Cats would respond, as McNeese delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Karee White to make the score, 7-11.
Littlefield would go on a rally, tying the set when Kyndal Edgemon delivered a kill off of Jack to make the score, 11-11. Tulia would regained the serve, as White delivered a kill off of Edgemon’s block try putting them back in front, 11-12.
Jaedyn Chasco served up an ace off of Champion and the Lady Hornets made it a three-point rally, before they were called for four hits, making the score, 12-15. Champion served up an ace off of Franco, but on the next play, Kaeleigh Logan went across the net on a tip, sending the serve back to Tulia with the score, 13-16.
A hit by Bownds went unreturned by the Lady Hornets, but McNeese’s serve on the following play sailed over the back line, pushing the Tulia lead to, 14- 17. A hit by Alexis Yarbrough was hit out of bounds by Bownds, but Parker answered with a kill for the Lady Cats and Ray followed it up with an ace to make the score, 16-18.
Ḃownds sent a kill past Jaedyn Chasco, but Ray’s next serve was short of the net, making the score, 17-19. Tulia could not capitalize, as the serve from Jeslyn Chasco also fell short of the net, sending the serve right back to Littlefield. Jaedyn Chasco dropped in a kill on the back line for Tulia, but their next serve from Franco fell short of the net, making the score, 19-20.
Littlefield delivered a kill to tie the set, 20-20, as Tulia took a time out, and out of the break, Jaedyn Chasco sent a kill over the back boundary line to put Littlefield in front, 21-20. McNeese dropped in a kill on the sideline and the Lady Hornets were called for a double hit extending their lead to, 23-20.
Hanlin served up an ace in front of Franco, but Jack answered with a kill for Tulia and Edgemon sent a hit into the net, trimming the lead to, 24-22. Ramirez served up an ace for Tulia, but after a Littlefield time out, White was called for reaching over the net on a block, giving Littlefield the set, 25-23, tying the match, 1-1.
Tulia jumped out to a, 0-2, lead in set three, but Ramirez sent a kill out of bounds, making the score, 1-2. Ramirez responded for Tulia with a kill off of Ray, but the following serve by Franco was hit over the back line, making the score, 2-3. A hit by Jack did not make it over the net off of the serve from Hanlin and Ramirez sent a hit into the net on the next play, making the score, 4-3, as Littlefield took their first lead of the set.
Hanlin kept the rally going with an ace, but Ramirez answered with a kill for Tulia, making the score, 5-4. McNeese answered with back-to-back kills for the Lady Cats and Logan sent a kill off of Balderas, making the score, 8-4, in favor of Littlefield. Their rally ended with a hit into the net by McNeese, but she answered on the next play, with a kill off of Franco, making the score, 10-4.
Champion served up an ace off of Franco and Jeslyn Chasco sent a hit into the net on the next play, making the score, 12-4. Jaedyn Chasco was called for going across the net, but Tulia would regain the serve on the next play, with the score, 13-5. The Lady Hornets scored again on the next play and Hanlin sent a hit out of bounds on the following play, cutting their lead to, 13-7.
Littlefield would end the rally with a kill, as Tulia took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Parker delivered a kill off of Alizae Balderas, making the score, 15-7. But, it was short-lived, as McNeese’s serve was short of the net, making the score, 15-8. A kill by Bownds was tipped out of bounds by Tulia, but Yarbrough dropped in a kill in front of Champion, making the score, 16-9.
Yarbrough sent a hit into the net for Tulia, but Bownds’ serve sailed out of bounds on the next play, making the score, 17-10. Parker answered for the Lady Cats with a tip over Jaedyn Chasco for a kill. Jack responded with a kill for Tulia, but Edgemon answered with a kill in front of Franco to make the score, 20-11.
Danielle Zapata served up back-to-back Littlefield points, before White sent a kill off of a block attempt by McNeese, making the score, 22-12. Jaedyn Chasco sent a serve out of bounds for Tulia, but the Lady Hornets came right back, as Jeslyn Chasco sent a kill over McNeese and Bownds, trimming the lead to, 23-13.
Tulia couldn’t answer, as Jack sent a serve sailing out of bounds, but the Lady Hornets responded, as Bownds touched the net on a play and Zoe Balderas followed it up with an ace to cut the lead to, 24-15. Champion sent a hit out of bounds for Littlefield, but Zoe Balderas’ serve on the next play sailed out of bounds, making the score, 25-16, giving the Lady Cats the set, making the match, 2-1.
Ray got the Lady Cats off to a, 3-0, lead in set four before Ramirez dropped in a tip for a kill to make the score, 3-1. Jeslyn Chasco served up an ace off of Bownds, but Yarbrough hit the foul pole on the next play, making the score, 4-2. Ramirez was blocked by Parker for a kill and Edgemon followed it up with a kill off of Zoe Balderas, pushing their lead to, 6-2.
Jaedyn Chasco scored a kill for Tulia, but they were unable to get a rally going, as Franco sent her serve out of bounds, making the score, 7-3. Hanlin and the Lady Cats went on a tear, scoring eight points, before a kill by Tulia was tipped out of bounds by the Lady Cats, making the score, 15-4.
McNeese was blocked by White and Jack for a kill and Tulia followed it up with back-to-back points, making the score, 15-7, before White was blocked by McNeese and Gideon Bramwell for a kill, giving the serve back to the Lady Cats. McNeese followed it up with a kill off of Zoe Balderas, but she touched the net on a kill attempt on the next play, making the score, 17-8.
Jaedyn Chasco sent a serve out of bounds, but Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as Ellie Lopez too sent a serve sailing out of bounds, making the score, 18-9. Jack sent a serve short of the net for Tulia, but White answered with a kill off of the block attempt from Parker, trimming the lead to, 19-10.
The Lady Hornets rallied four four consecutive points, as Littlefield took a time out with the lead cut to, 19-14. Out of the break, Bownds picked up a kill at the net off of Ramirez to regain the serve for the Lady Cats. Tulia sent a hit into the net, as they called a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Bownds dropped in a kill off of the block attempt by Ramirez, making the score, 22-14. Ramirez touched the net on the next play, but Yarbrough responded for Tulia with a kill off of Bramwell on the following play, making the score, 23-15.
Tulia would go on a, 2-4, scoring run, but Littlefield would take the set, 25-19, and the match, 3-1.
The Lady Cats were in the Childress Tournament thursday to Saturday. They will be at Plainview on Tueday.
First set is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
