Alma Castillo takes week three of Football Contest

Week three of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest is in the books with all three levels of Football now in full swing.

This week Alma Castillo took the top spot in our contest, finishing with a mark of 18-2. Johnny Rosemond placed second with a score of 15-5, while Larry Ashley, Lyndel Evans, Sam Castillo, Stevy Smith Teresa Dabrowski and Tommy Cloninger each finished tied for third with a score of 14-6.

Third place came down to the tiebreaker, which was the combined score from the Broncos and Giants game, 40 points. The ones who guessed closest to the tie-breaker were Sam Castillo and Tommy Cloninger, who both guessed 42 points.

In the High School ranks, Littlefield pulled out a thrilling fourth quarter comeback over Post, 21-20, while Olton traveled to New Mexico on Saturday and took down Texico, 56-22. Amherst won over Lorenzo via forfeit, while Anton 45’ed Kingdom Prep, 59-14.

Springlake-Earth took down #8 Happy at Cowboy Corral on Thursday, 68-36, while Frenship won an epic contest over Lubbock-Cooper, 14-13. Wellington took down River Road, 12-0, while New Deal blasted Slaton, 37-0, and Shallowater throttled Levelland, 49-7.

In the college ranks, Oregon went into Columbus and pulled the upset over the Buckeyes, 35-28, while Rutgers took down Syracuse, 17-7, and TCU edged out California, 34-32. Air Force took down Navy, 23-3, and Iowa won at Iowa State, 27-17.

In the NFL, the Steelers rallied past the Bills, 23-16, while the Bengals won in overtime over the Vikings, 27-24. The Chiefs rallied past the Browns, 33-29, while the Dolphins won a tight contest over the Patriots, 17-16, and the Saints blew out the Packers, 38-3.

Those who finished 13-7 this week were Donna Neinast, Bobby Cunningham, Brenda Herrell, Dewayne Hayes, Ed Dabrowski Floyce Pierce, Jimmy Davis Jr., Marcelino Garcia Jr., Oscar Sanchez, Robin Elliott and Thomas Blackstone. Contestants who finished 12-8 this week were David NeinastDezi Vargas, Ivan Estrada, Jim Davis Sr., Kay Cloninger, Lonnie Neinast, Mark Grace and Terrill Moorhead.

JR Herrell, Juan Hernandez and Warren Dayton each finished 11-9 this week, while Jan Smith, Marcelino Castillo, Martin Duran Jr., Richard Orozco and Ronnie Martin each finished 10-10. James Hood finished with a score of 9-11, while Devin Garcia and Martin Duran each finished 8-12 this week.

In the overall standings, Oscar Sanchez holds a slim lead over the competition in first place with 42 points, while Donna Neinast, David Neinast, Rosemond, Evans and Tommy Cloninger are tied for second place with 40 points. Garcia Jr., Blackstone and Lonnie Neinast are tied for third with 39 points, while Teresa Dabrowski, Bobby Cunningham and Davis Jr., are tied for fourth with 37 points.

Ed Dabrowski, Estrada, Kay Cloninger, Moorhead, Martin and

Duran each finished with 36 points, which is tied for fifth place overall, while Pierce, Grace, JR Herrell and Jan Smith are tied for sixth with 35 points. Ashley, Hayes, Elliott, Davis Sr. and Dayton are tied for seventh with 34 points, while Hernandez and Marcelino Castillo are tied for eighth with 32 points. Garcia is in ninth place with 31 points and Alma Castillo rounds out the top 10 with 29 points.
