The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell at home to the Brownfield Lady Cubs on Saturday, 0-3, in their final regular season match.
With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to, 7-3 in district play.
Gabi Fields touched the net on a block attempt to open set one, but Brianne Franco answered with a kill for the Lady Cubs to tie the set, 1-1. Senior, Ashtyn Parker, dropped in a tip over Dabria Blackwell and Deja Johnson for a kill, but the Lady Cubs again answered, tying the set, 2-2.
The Lady Cubs proceeded to go on a six-point scoring run, that was ended when Franco sent a serve sailing out of bounds to make the score, 3-8. Junior, Madison McNeese, delivered a kill in front of the block attempt by Deja Johnson and she followed it up with another kill that was tipped at the net by Deja Johnson, before falling in for a kill to cut the Brownfield lead to, 5-8.
Deja Johnson would respond, as she dropped a kill in the back corner for the Lady Cubs to make the score, 5-9, as they regained the serve. The Lady Cats would not lay down, as Blackwell was blocked by McNeese for a kill, trimming the lead to, 6-9.
Meriah Gonzalez would score a kill off of the block by Senior, Gideon Bramwell, sparking a fivepoint scoring run for the Lady Cubs, before McNeese delivered a kill in front of Jackie Castillo to make the score, 7-15.
Valeria Cruz sent a hit short of the net, but McNeese answered on the next play with a kill off of the block attempt by Tia Johnson, making the score, 8-16. Tia Johnson sent a hit into the net on the next play, but Franco answered with a kill off of the block attempt by sophomore, Kyndal Edgemon, making the score, 9-17.
The Lady Cubs would go on to close out set one on an, 8-2, scoring run, putting Brownfield up, 0- 1, in the match.
Franco sent a kill sailing out of bounds to open set two, but the Lady Cats couldn’t capitalize, as senior, Julie Rodriguez, sent a serve out of bounds, making the score, 1-1. Brownfield’s Lindsey Herrera couldn’t get to a tip by senior, Danielle Zapata and McNeese followed it up with an ace off of Castillo, to put Littlefield in front, 3-1. Parker delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Blackwell and Deja Johnson, but McNeese’s next serve fell short of the net, turning it over to Brownfield with the score, 4-2.
Brownfield tied the score two plays later, as Tia Johnson delivered a kill off of senior, Brynna Ray, and Deja Johnson followed it up with an ace off of senior, Emily Champion to give Brownfield their first lead of the set, 4-5. They would rally for two more points, before Parker delivered a hit across the court for a kill, trimming the lead back down to, 5-7.
Littlefield scored a point to make it a one-point game, but McNeese couldn’t dig a tip by Blackwell, as the Lady Cubs extended their lead to, 6-8. Brownfield went on a fivepoint rally, before Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, junior, Kaeleigh Logan, delivered a kill off of Blackwell to trim the lead to, 7-13.
Brownfield scored back-to-back points on kills from Meriah Gonzalez and Fields, before Franco sent a hit out of bounds to make the score, 8-15. A hit by McNeese was hit backwards out of bounds by Franco to cut the lead to, 9-15, but Tia Johnson answered for the Lady Cubs, delivering a kill in front of the block attempt by sophomore, Julie Bownds, making the score, 9-16.
Brownfield’s points continued to come in bunches as they put together another four-point rally before Franco sent a hit into the net, turning the serve over to Littlefield with the score, 10-20. Ray served up an ace off of Herrera, but the Lady Cubs would answer, as they closed out the set on a, 2-5 scoring run to take set two, 13-25.
In set three, Deja Johnson sent a kill sailing out of bounds to start things off and Fields touched the net on a play to put the Lady Cats up, 2-0. However, Deja Johnson responded with a kill in front of Ray and followed it up with another kill past McNeese to tie the set, 2-2.
A hit by Champion was tipped out of bounds by Herrera and Blackwell, on the next play, sent a kill out of bounds, making the score, 4-2. Ray sent a hit into the net to end the rally for the Lady Cats, but Parker responded quickly on the next play, sending a kill off of Blackwell for a point, making the score, 5-3.
Brownfield would tie the set a few plays later at, 6-6, after a serve by McNeese sailed into the net and they took the lead on the next play, as Meriah Gonzalez delivered a kill off of McNeese, making the score, 6-7. The set would be tied again a couple of plays later as a tip by McNeese was blocked by Tia Johnson for a kill, making the score, 8-8.
Brownfield would jump out to a, 9-12, lead, as Parker was blocked by Deja Johnson for a kill, but they couldn’t keep the rally going, as Deja Johnson sent a hit into the net, making the score, 10-12. Several plays later, the Lady Cats would tie the set, 13-13, after McNeese dropped in a tip off of Blackwell for a kill. The Lady Cubs took a time out and out of the break, the teams exchanged hits into the net, keeping it tied, 14-14.
Brownfield rallied for three points, before Littlefield called a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, McNeese served up a kill off of the set-up from Logan, making the score, 15-17, but the Lady Cubs would answer with back-to-back points, stretching their lead to, 15-19.
Littlefield would regain the serve and on the following play, Gabby Gonzalez hit the foul pole with a hit, trimming the lead to, 17-19. The Lady Cubs sent a kill sailing out of bounds, before Tia Johnson answered on the next play with a kill off of the long break by Champion, making the score, 18-20.
Deja Johnson followed it up with a kill off of the block attempt by Edgemon and Tia Johnson served up an ace, pushing their lead to, 18-22, as Littlefield took a time out to try and freeze the Lady Cubs. Out of the break, Deja Johnson scored a kill off of the break by McNeese, but she was called for touching the net on the following play, making the score, 19-23.
Ray served up an ace for Littlefield, but the Lady Cubs answered with a kill to make the score, 20-24. A Brownfield miscue sent the serve back over to Littlefield, but on the following play, Parker lost a tip battle at the net with Deja Johnson, as Brownfield took the set, 21-25, and the match, 0-3.
The Lady Cats had a seeding game Tuesday at Friona against Denver City. Results were not available at press time.
Their bi-district game will be Nov 1 st or 2 nd , as they await their opponent.
