The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team swept the Lamesa Lady Tornadoes on Tuesday, 3-0, at Wildcat Gym.
With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 5-2 in District Play.
After falling into an, 0-1, hole to begin set one, the Lady Cats went on a, 3-0, scoring run to make the score, 3-1. Two plays later, Lamesa’s Zoey Sifuentes made it a one-point Littlefield lead, 4-3. The Lady Tornadoes tied it up on the next play, but it was shortlived, as Clarissa Moreno’s kill attempt landed out of bounds to make the score, 5-4.
Juniors, Madison McNeese, and Kaeleigh Logan, delivered back-to-back kills, before Lamesa ended the rally to make the score, 7-5. Sagen Oaks served up an ace for Lamesa, but the Lady Cats would answer, as Lamesa hit a ball out of bounds, sparking a threepoint rally for Littlefield, making the score, 10-6.
Chloe Crittendon delivered a kill for Lamesa, but Lamesa hit the ball out of bounds on the next play, making the score, 11-7. McNeese served up an ace for the Lady Cats and Lamesa’s next hit was out of bounds, making the score, 13-7. Chloe Crittendon and senior, Ashtyn Parker, each delivered a kill, but Parker’s next hit was short of the net, making the score, 14-9.
After a few miscues by Littlefield, the Lady Cats took a time out to talk things over, and out of the break, Littlefield regained the serve, but they couldn’t capitalize, as a hit by Parker was called out of bounds, making the score, 15-13.
Littlefield went on a sevenpoint scoring run that ended when Lamesa scored a kill to make the score, 22-14. Lamesa would give the serve right back to Littlefield, as they were called for four hits. Littlefield closed out the set, on the next two plays, as McNeese delivered back-to-back kills to make the score, 25-15, giving Littlefield set one.
Lamesa opened set two on a, 5-0, scoring run, before Oaks sent a serve into the net to end the Lady Tornadoes rally. Parker sent a kill that was tipped by Chloe Crittendon and Sifuentes for a Lady Cat point, making the score, 2-5. A save attempt by Parker landed out of bounds, but she responded with a kill for Littlefield, making the score, 3-6.
Littlefield would tie the set on a hit into the net by Chloe Crittendon, making the score, 9-9, but she would answer for Lamesa on the next play, as she delivered a kill that Champion couldn’t get to for the dig, making the score, 9-10. Lamesa sent a serve into the net and Champion followed it up with an ace, making the score, 11-10.
However, Champion sent a serve short of the net to tie the set once more, 11-11. The teams went back-and-forth until McNeese delivered a kill to make the score, 20-17. The Lady Cats would proceed to go on a, 5-0, scoring run to take set two, 25-17, putting them up 2-0, in the match.
In set three, Littlefield jumped out to a, 12-5, lead, before Lamesa took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Logan delivered a kill, but on the next play the kill attempt by McNeese landed out of bounds, making the score, 13-6.
Lamesa would battle back to make it a two-point set, as senior, Brynna Ray, was called for an illegal hit, making the score, 19-17. They would tie it up two plays later, as a tip by Ray fell short of the net, making the score, 19-19.
The set went down to the wire, but McNeese sent a tip over the net that was tipped out of bounds by Madison Derington, to give Littlefield the set, 26-24, and the match, 3-0.
The Lady Cats were at home on Saturday for there second meeting of the season with the Denver City Fillies. Results were not available at press time. They will be on the road on Tuesday to take on Friona.
First set is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
