Mustangs set to host Owls for Homecoming

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity football team is coming off of a bye week as they get ready to host the Hale Center Owls for Homecoming on Friday.

“The bye week was a good chance for us to get back to basics and work on technique, blocking, tackling and other areas to improve our game,” Head Coach Ross Lassiter said. “At the same time, you worry about losing some of the timing and speed of the game during a week without a game.”

The coach talked about what they will need to do offensively to have success against the Owls on Friday, saying, “We will need to continue to improve in both our ability to run and throw. We feel like we took a positive step with our win over Texico but we realize that we will have to be even better to beat Hale Center.”

He added, “Defensively we will need to slow down Hale Center’s run game. They have ran the ball extremely well in their first three games. At the same time, they have the ability to big play you with their passing game. It will be a challengefor us.”

Coach Lassiter said that he feels the keys to them getting a victory on Friday are, “Offensively, winning on third down and putting drives together and scoring in the red zone. Defensively, winning third down and getting Hale Center off of the field will be important and that starts with slowing down their run game.”

Kick-off for this contest is slated for 7 p.m.
