The Springlake-Earth Wolverines’ varsity football team has a big test this week against Rankin at Borden County.
Head Coach Israel DeLeon talked about their win over Whitharral, saying “I was happy with our effort, our kids played hard. We knew we had our hands full with their skill players. We need to work on special teams moving forward.” Last week, the Wolverine
Last week, the Wolverine defense held Whitharral to 176 yards of total offense.
Coach DeLeon talked about what they’ll need to do against Rankin on Friday to keep them in check, saying, “Defense was a bright spot for us last week and I was happy with our efforts, but I know there is a lot of room for improvement. We gave up some big plays on third and fourth down.”
Offensively, Braxton Ethridge had a great game going 9-11 passing for over 273 yards and five touchdowns and added another 231 yards on the ground and five touchdowns. Tim Tanaro had a good day catching with four catches 108 yards from the center position.
Coach DeLeon talked about what he will need to continue to see from the team this week as they prepare for Rankin, saying, “I thought our offense did a good job of taking what they gave us. Whitharral was set up to stop Keshan Holmes, which opened up the sweeps for Braxton. Our receivers were covered well, and the center is almost always ignored in six-man, which allowed Tim to have a big game.”
The coach talked about the match-up with Rankin, saying, I don’t know how to gauge us vs Rankin. We will know more after the game. This is a big game to gauge where we truly rank vs one of the best teams in the state. we are looking forward to the competition.”
Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m. on Friday at Borden County High School.
