The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell to the Lubbock Christian Lady Eagles on Tuesday morning in the first match of their dual, 1-3.
With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 0-2 overall on the season.
The Lady Cats fell to the Lady Eagles, 22-25 in set one and 21-25 in set two, falling into an 0-2 hole in the match.
With their backs against the wall in set three, Littlefield jumped out to a, 1-0, lead and on the following play, Shirah Arnold crossed the net on a dig at the net, stretching the Lady Cat’s lead to, 2-0. Julie Bownds delivered a kill over Arnold and the Lady Eagles hit the ball out of bounds on the next play, extending the lead to, 4-0.
Lubbock Christian got on the board with a kill that landed in front of Brynna Ray, making the score, 4-1. Arnold served up an ace off of Ray, trimming the lead to, 4-2. Ashtyn Parker was called for being across the net on a hit, but she recovered on the next play, delivering a kill to push the Littlefield lead back out to, 5-3.
LCHS hit a ball into the net on the next play and Kyndal Edgemon followed up the play with a block on the hit by Reese Bruington, but the ball landed out of bounds for a LCHS point, making the score, 6-4. Littlefield regained the serve with a kill, and on the next play, Brooke Hooten’s kill try landed out of bounds, extending the lead to, 8-4.
Callie Roberts was called for touching the net on a play, but Bruington, on the next play, delivered a kill in front of Madison McNeese’s block attempt to trim the lead to 9-5. The Lady Eagles were called for a double hit turning the serve back over to Littlefield and Danielle Zapata’s serve on the following play was hit into the net by Roberts, making the score, 11-5.
Grace Brown was blocked by McNeese for a kill, as LCHS called a time out to talk things over, trailing the Lady Cats, 12-5. Out of the break, a tip by Hooten landed out of bounds, extending the lead to, 13-5. Hooten would bounce back for LCHS and score back-to-back points for the Lady Eagles, before Edgemon delivered a kill to regain the serve for Littlefield. A long dig by Kennadi Hanlin was killed at the net by Brown, trimming the lead to, 14-8, but Hooten’s following serve landed out of bounds, making the score, 15-8, as the serve returned to Littlefield.
The Lady Cats could not capitalize, as Bownds hit a ball into the net to make the score, 15-9. Bownds answered with a kill off of the block attempt by Bruington, but on the next play, LCHS dropped in a tip in front of Ray to make the score, 16-10. Parker picked up a kill off of the serve from Arnold, but a hit into the net on the next play by Edgemon, gave the serve right back to the Lady Eagles with the score, 17-11.
Littlefield would score back-to-back points on kills from Edgemon and McNeese, as the Lady Eagles took another time out to talk things over. Out of the break, LCHS would rally for three consecutive points, before a kill try by Hooten landed out of bounds, making the score, 20-14.
LCHS strung together another three-point run, before Littlefield called a time out to try and slow down the Lady Eagles momentum. Out of the break, McNeese dropped in a tip for a kill to stretch the lead to, 21-17. The teams exchanged points before a kill by Parker sparked the game-winning rally.
Parker tipped the net with a kill on the next play an on the final play of the set, Bownds sent a kill through the block attempt of LCHS to end the set, 25-19, making the score in the match, 1-2.
Roberts delivered a kill to open set four, but a long dig by McNeese was hit out of bounds by the Lady Eagles, making the score, 1-1. Bownds followed it up with an ace off of Mara Dendy and her next serve went unreturned to make the score, 3-1. A bad tip on the next play by the Lady Eagles made the score, 4-1, and a hit by LCHS was blocked by Edgemon and Parker for a kill to extend the lead to, 5-1.
Arnold ended the rally with a kill over the back row to trim the lead to, 5-2 and LCHS would rally to take the lead on a double hit by Edgemon, making the score, 5-6. The LCHS lead was short-lived, as McNeese delivered a kill to tie the set, 6-6. Hooten sent a kill past Ray, sparking a five-point rally for LCHS to make the score, 6-11.
The run ended when Roberts sent a kill sailing out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 7-11. Zapata’s serve on the next play was hit into the net by the Lady Eagles and on the following play, Hooten broke the serve by Zapata, but Edgemon was there to kill it at the net, making the score, 9-11.
Hooten delivered a kill in front of Hanlin and Halle Galbraith served up an ace to make the score, 9-13. A tip on the next play by Kaeleigh Logan was hit out of bounds by Galbraith to cut the lead to three points, but Emily Champion’s serve sailed out of bounds for the Lady Cats, pushing the LCHS lead back out to, 10- 14.
Hooten and McNeese exchanged kills and Parker followed it up with a kill in front of Dendy, trimming the lead to, 12-15. McNeese sent a serve out of bounds, but Parker tipped the net for a kill on the next play to make the score, 13-16. Ray’s serve was hit into the net by LCHS, but the Lady Eagles would respond with a three-point rally to make the score, 14-19, as Littlefield called a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, Arnold served up back-to-back points, before sending a serve out of bounds to make the score, 15-21. Bruington was called for an illegal hit, but on the following play, Edgemon sent a hit out of bounds to make the score, 16-22. Bruington sent a hit into the net, but LCHS would rally to take the next three points to claim the set, 17-25, and the match, 1-3.
