Weather and exports continue to impact cotton outlook

The market (new crop December futures) seems to be working its way into a “comfort zone” of mostly 81 to 87 cents. Ahead of USDA’s May supply/demand numbers and the first estimate of actual planted acres coming on June 30, the market will continue to focus mostly on U.S. crop conditions and weekly exports for direction.

Consider Fertilizer Revisions for West Texas Cotton

Cotton producers across west Texas will begin putting fertilizer down in the next couple weeks and start planting in May. Many will be using new and improved cotton varieties but haven’t updated their fertilizing practices to match the new technology, according to a Texas A&M AgriLife Research study.

Auxin Certification Trainings

Auxin certification trainings have already been conducted in 2021 and several more are planned. These satisfy the US Environmental Protection Agency mandatory dicamba training and the Texas Department of Agriculture requirement for approved dicamba and 2,4-D formulations.
