Parents, grandparents, and friends enjoyed an end of school performance by the entire Primary School at the Wildcat Stadium on Tues, May 4, 2021. The weather was perfect for a change and the performance of all the insects was nothing short of uplifting.

320 bugs of all shapes and small sizes filled the football field at Wildcat Stadium to present a musical review based on the children’s play “Bugz” by John Jacobson and John Higgins.

Mrs. Toni Meredith, the music director of Littlefield Primary, directed and choreographed the performance.

During the planning stages of the annual end of school program, the faculty was faced with the reality of putting a program on during a pandemic. Having a large audience of all ages in a close space was not an option. If the school was to have the annual program, it was obviously necessary to do it outdoors or in a very large space. Since the school already had the play, Bugz, Ms Meredith pondered the feasibility of an outdoor venue. The play is a fanciful story about bugs planning to have their own picnic, of course, by searching out a people picnic. It buzzes with 5 original songs ranging from a hoedown,”Going to a Picnic” to ballads to a “March of the Army Ants”.

Coach Brent Green requested the use of Wildcat Stadium for the production, and in true Wildcat fashion, the administration approved the request.

At that point, another problem presented itself. The play had speaking lines.

It was not possible (or possibly even prudent) to have microphones on the very young performers, so the decision was made to do a musical review of the songs in the play complete with the choreography. The administration graciously granted permission to utilize the sound system at the stadium.

Then, there was the logistics of transportation from the school to the stadium, and back to school for some of the students. The transportation department stepped up and volunteered to drive the buses.

The last obstacle was costuming to transform 320 students into bugs. The school reached out to involve the parents. According to Ms. Meredith, “The parents did an awesome job creating all the costumes. Primary staff members also stepped up to provide costumes when needed as well.” Mrs. Meredith also wished to

Mrs. Meredith also wished to acknowledge the participation and assistance volunteered by the Wildcat and Lady Cat Mascots and the Wildcat Yearbook students of Littlefield High School.

Special thanks go out to Dylan Redman, who flawlessly controlled the sound systems.

Mrs. Meredith also wished to send:

“Many thanks to; the teachers and staff at the Primary school for putting my plan into action;

The transportation department for safely bringing the bugs to the program in perfect time;

Principal Hays and Coach Green for not saying no to my wild ideas; and

The Primary students for their focus and hard work to put together a show that will last in our memories for a long, long, time.”
