This young cowboy has branded his calf and is racing back to the starting point to get the best time as the judge gets ready to mark completion of the branding.

No horse is too tall for a real cowboy!

The first event was branding. The young contestants had to rope a calf and bring it out to the branding area where teamates "branded" and marked the calf in the fastest time. Adults were in the arena with them to insure the safety of the young people.

This young rider has successfully cut the first steer from the herd.

This young cowboy is attempting to cut the numbered steer from the herd in the Sorting competition. In the youth competition, the team is required to cut three consecutively numbered steers from the herd.

Calf is successfully head and heeled for the Stray Gathering competition
