The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell on the road to the Plainview Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday, 0-3.
In set one, Brynna Ray’s opening serve fell short of the net, but the Lady Bulldogs gave the point right back to Littlefield on the next play when Bela Juarez was called for touching the net. Daniela Guzman and Juarez sent back-to-back kills out of bounds for Plainview and the Lady Bulldogs were called for four hits on the following play, stretching the Lady Cat’s lead to, 4-1.
The rally ended when Guzman sent a kill off of Madison McNeese that landed out of bounds to trim the lead to, 4-2. Plainview went on to tie the set, 4-4, on an ace from Haley Alderete and a kill from Haley Curtis, before Littlefield scored a kill to regain the lead and the serve.
Kennadi Hanlin’s serve was returned by Avery Moudy, but the save try by Hanlin landed out of bounds, tying the set, 5-5. Guzman sent a kill sailing out of bounds and Kyndal Edgemon followed it up with a kill past Alderete to give them a two-point lead, 7-5, but on the next play, Guzman dropped a soft hit in front of the block attempt by McNeese and Edgemon for a kill to make the score, 7-6.
A kill attempt by Ashtyn Parker was broke by Guzman, but no one on the Lady Cat side reacted as it fell in for a kill to cut the lead to, 8-6. Elena Carri followed it up with a kill for Plainview, but the Lady Cats answered, as McNeese sent a kill off of the block attempt by Adri Martin and Alderete, making the score, 9-7.
Saige Brunson sent a kill sailing out of bounds for Plainview, but they answered with a kill off of Emily Champion on the next play to make the score, 10-8. On the next play, Danielle Zapata’s set was too low for Julie Bownds, as she hit the ball into the next, cutting the lead to, 10-9. Alderete sent a hit over the back
Alderete sent a hit over the back boundary line for the Lady Bulldogs, but they recovered on the next play, as Brunson sent a kill off of Champion to make the score, 11-10. A long break by Champion off of the serve from Brunson ended up in a kill for Plainview on the tip by Martin at the net, making the score, 11-11. Brunson sent a serve short of the net to end the rally for Plainview, but they would quickly regain the serve, after Parker hit a ball into the net to make the score, 12-12. they would rally for four more points, before Alderete sent a serve over the back boundary line, making the score, 13-16.
Jacey Loudder scored back-to-back kills for the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Cats were called for four hits on the next play to make the score, 13-19. Loudder sent a kill over the back boundary line and on the next play, she was blocked by McNeese and then called for an illegal hit on her next attempt, trimming the lead to, 15-19.
The Lady Cats were unable to capitalize though, as Edgemon sent a hit sailing out of bounds. Loudder was blocked again on the next play by McNeese for a kill and Kaeleigh Logan followed it up with a kill off of Moudy, cutting the lead to, 17-20. Champion couldn’t keep the rally going, as her serve sailed out of bounds, but on the next play, a kill by McNeese was tipped out of bounds by Plainview, making the score, 18-21.
Brunson sent a kill out of bounds for Plainview, but McNeese gave the point right back to them on the next play, as her serve sailed over the boundary line, making the score, 19- 22. Curtis sent a serve out of bounds for Plainview, and Martin was called for a double-hit on the next play, cutting the lead to, 21-22. Littlefield would tie things up on the next play, as a tip by Parker was tipped on the block attempt by Juarez and Mackinzie Blackerby, before falling in for a kill to tie the set, 22-22.
Plainview took a time out to try and slow Littlefield’s momentum, and out of the break, Ray’s serve fell short of the net, but the Lady Cat’s would regain the serve, as PARker sent a kill past the block attempt by Martin, tying the set once more, 23-23. a hit by Guzman didn’t make it over the net for Plainview, as they called another time out to talk things over with the score, 24-23.
Out of the break, Curtis tied the set with a tip for a kill an on the following play, Edgemon sent a kill sailing out of bounds to make the score, 24-25. Littlefield took a time out, but on the next play, a long break by Champion on the serve, was kill at the net by Loudder, giving the Lady Bulldogs the set, 24-26.
In set two, Plainview jumped out to a, 2-6 lead, before Carri sent a serve short of the net, turning it over to Littlefield. Guzman delivered a kill off of Champion, but McNeese answered with a kill of her own in front of the block attempt by Loudder, making the score, 4-7. Champion served up an ace off of Alderete, before sending her next serve out of bounds to make the score, 5-8.
Littlefield took a time out and out of the break, Logan delivered a kill and on the next play, Loudder sent a kill out of bounds to make it a one-point game, 7-8. McNeese followed it up with an ace between Taylor Wallace and Celest Figueroa to tie the set, 8-8.
The teams went back-and-forth until McNeese dropped in a tip that Alderete couldn’t dig to put the Lady Cats in front, 13-12. Edgemon delivered a tip for a kill in front of Carri and Brunson to extend the lead to, 14-12, and Carri set a kill sailing out of bounds to push their lead out to, 15- 12. The rally ended when Brunson dropped in a tip for a kill to make the score, 15-13.
Plainview would rally back and tie the set, 15-15, on a double-hit by Zapata. They took the lead on the next play, when Parker sent a kill sailing out of bounds, but they would not hold the lead for long, as Brunson’s serve on the next play fell short of the net, making the score, 16-16.
The teams went back-and-forth, but the Lady Bulldogs would close out the set on a, 2-5, scoring run to take set two, 20-25.
The Lady Cats fell into an, 0-3, hole to begin set three, but would get on the board, as Parker sent a kill past Alderete, making the score, 1-3. Guzman sent a hit into the net on the next play to make the score, 2-3, but the Lady Bulldogs would answer with a four point rally that ended when Alderete sent a serve out of bounds to make the score, 3-7. Plainview bounced back, as
Plainview bounced back, as Loudder sent a kill off of Tricia Torres to regain the serve for the Lady Bulldogs. But, the Lady Cats scored three consecutive points, making the score, 6-8, after a kill attempt from Guzman landed out of bounds. The Lady Cats could not keep the rally going, though, as they were called for four hits, sending the serve back over to Plainview with the score, 6-9.
The Lady Bulldogs would rally for four points before Carri sent a serve out of bounds, making the score, 8- 13. Plainview answered with a kill in front of Zapata, as they went on to score back-to-back points, before Head Coach Claire Head took a timeout for Littlefield.
Out of the break, Bownds was blocked by Blackerby, but the ball landed out of bounds, making the score, 9-16. Plainview answered with a three-point rally that ended when a hit by McNeese fell in for a kill to make the score, 10-19. Plainview would outscore the Lady Cats, 5-6 in the final sequences to take the set, 15-25, and the match, 0-3.
The Lady Cats will be back in action on Tuesday when they host the River Road Lady Cats at Wildcat Gym.
First set is scheduled for 6 p.m.
