Olton starts fast, finishes strong in, 37-6, victory over Boys Ranch

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity football team took down Boys Ranch at home on Friday, 37-6, to improve to 5-2 overall, 1-1 in district play.

In the first quarter, Olton got the scoring started, as junior quarterback, Logan Lassiter, found junior receiver, Jake Soliz, for a 35-yard touchdown pass. Senior running back, Josue Castro-Barajas, ran in the twopoint conversion to put the Mustangs in front, 8-0.

Later in the first quarter, Lassiter booted a 33-yard field goal through the uprights to extend their lead to, 11-0, and the Mustangs closed out the opening quarter with a 29-yard touchdown pass from Lassiter, that found Soliz for the score. Lassiter connected on the PAT to make the score, 18-0, going into the locker room at halftime.

In the second quarter, Lassiter connected again with Soliz, this time for a 20-yard sore and later in the quarter, Castro-Barajas broke loose for a 59-yard touchdown run to make the score, 31-0, heading into the locker room at halftime.

Out of the break, Castro-Barajas scored the lone touchdown of the third quarter, as he broke free for a 35-yard touchdown run. The PAT by Lassiter was no good, leaving the score, 37-0, heading into the final quar ter of play.

Boys Ranch would avoid the shutout in the fourth quarter, as Jayden Slater caught a 48-yard touchdown pass from Isaiah Brown. The two-point conversion try was no good, as the Mustangs defended their home field against Boys Ranch, 37-6.

Lassiter finished the game, 11-26 passing for 153 yards and three touchdowns, while adding six carries for 45 yards.

Castro-Barajas led the rushing attack with eight carries for 111 yards and two touchdowns; he also caught one pass for 15 yards.

In the receiving game, Soliz finished with three catches for

84 yards and three touchdowns, while junior, Brennon Huguley, caught six passes for 42 yards.

Defensively, Huguley led the team in total tackles with 19, while Castro-Barajas finished with 15 tackles and juniors, Grady Roberts and Damian Marquez, each finished with 11 tackles.

Sophomore, Alan Vasquez also had a sack in the contest to go along with four tackles. Senior, Ezekiel Molina, pulled down an interception and the defense had 12 pass deflections.

They will be at Sanford-Fritch on Friday, as District play continues.

Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
