Mustangs looking to bounce back against Texico on Saturday

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity football team fell short against the Dimmitt Bobcats, 14-6, in their home-opener on Friday night.

With the loss, the Mustangs fall to 1-1 overall on the season.

Dimmitt took an, 8-6, lead in the first quarter, which stood until the final frame where they added six points to make the final score, 14- 6.

Olton junior quarterback, Logan Lassiter, was five-of-22 passing for 52 yards and two interceptions.

Senior running back, Josue Castro-Barajas, led the Mustang rushing attack with 18 carries for 129 yards and one touchdown, while senior, Josh Marquez, added seven carries for 28 yards.

In the receiving game, junior, Brennon Huguley, tallied four catches for 40 yards and junior, Jake Soliz, added one catch for 12 yards.

Defensively, Jacob Marquez led the team with 18 total tackles, including three for loss. He also had two sack in the contest. Huguley tallied nine tackles and two sacks, while Castro-Barajas and Michael Matute each chipped in eight tackles and Sayd Velez had four tackles and one sack.

Andrew Martinez also had one interception in the contest.

This week the Mustangs travel to New Mexico to take on Texico on Saturday morning.

Kick-off is slated for 11 a.m. Texas time.
