Nettes fall to Hale Center, 48-41, for first loss of district

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team suffered their first blemish of District play, as they fell on the road to the Hale Center Lady Owls, 48-41.

With the loss, the Nettes fall to 4-1 in district play on the season.

Sudan jumped out to a, 6-2, lead in the first quarter, but the Lady Owls poured in 21 points in the second frame to take a, 23-14, lead into the locker room at halftime.

Out of the break, the Nettes outscored Hale Center, 11-7, in the third quarter to cut the lead to, 3025, heading into the final quarter of play. In the fourth quarter, though, Hale Center netted 18 points to outscore the Nettes, who netted 16 points in the quarter. Hale Center edged out the Nettes in their first meeting of district play, 48-41.

Stevi Lockhart led the Nettes in scoring with 19 points, while adding seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Landree Gonzales chipped in nine points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist, while Gracyn Shultz tallied four points, eight rebounds and one steal.

Melo Rodriguez contributed three points and one rebound, while Blessy Montes contributed two points, three rebounds and two steals. Edette Herrera added two points and two rebounds, while Elaine Martinez finished with 11 rebounds, two points, one assist and one steal.

The Nettes were at Smyer on Tuesday to take on the Lady Cats. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Friday with a home game against New Deal.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
