Lady Cats drop district-opener to Idalou, 0-3

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team dropped their district-opener last Tuesday to the Idalou Lady Cats, 0-3.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 0-1 in district play.

Jaidyn Saenz’s serve fell short of the net to open set one, but Leyla Carmona was called for being on the net for Idalou during the next play, making the score, 1-1. A dig by Abby Rodriguez landed out of bounds, sparking a three-point rally for Idalou, that ended when Maggie McNeese delivered a kill to trim the lead to, 2-4.

Briley Stephens delivered a kill in front of a block attempt by McNeese and Emzi Stovall followed it up with an ace for Idalou, before Hadley Underwood sent a kill sailing out of bounds, making the score, 3-6. Littlefield would responded, as a block from Rylee Miller led to a Littlefield point, but it was short-lived, as Underwood sent a kill past McNeese on the back row, stretching their lead to, 5-7.

Each team sent a serve off of the mark, but Idalou followed it up with a kill on the sideline from Kambrie Roye, making the score, 6-9. Idalou would score three consecutive points, before they sent a hit into the net to turn the serve over to Littlefield with the score, 7-11. Idalou would respond with a kill in front of Faith Balderas that sparked a five-point rally to push their lead to, 7-15.

Underwood sent a kill attempt into the net, and on the next play, a kill from Anna Vargas was tipped out of bounds by Idalou to trim the lead to, 9-15. Idalou scored a kill on the next play, but it was answered with a kill from McNeese off of Roye to make the score, 10-17.

Both teams would sent a serve off of the mark, but Idalou would answer with a kill from Stephens off of Balderas to make the score, 11-19. Atip by Miller was hit out of bounds by Idalou to regain the serve for Littlefield. Idalou sent back-to-back hits off of the mark and Miller kept the rally going with a kill to slice the lead to, 15-19.

Idalou took a time out to talk tilings over, and out of the break, Mattie Seymore sent a dig into the net. Littlefield would get the serve back on the next play, as Miller delivered a kill off of Roye, making the score, 1620. The Lady Cats couldn’t capitalize, as Seymore sent a serve short of the net, pushing the lead back out to, 16-- 21.

Vargas sent a hit into the net, but she would respond with a kill on the next play to make the score, 17-22. Littlefield would lose the serve on the next play, after a hit into the net by Rodriguez, but they would no go down easy, as McNeese tipped the net for a kill to make the score, 18-23. Each team sent a serve out of bounds, and Balderas followed it up with an ace off of Hayden S rader, cutting the lead to, 20-24.

Stephens sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds to make it a three-point game, but a kill from Stephens on the next play, was tipped out of bounds by Balderas, giving Idalou the set, 21-25.

Littlefield started set two in an, 0-6, hole, before Jackie Alvidrez was called for being on the net to make the score, 1 -6, as Littlefield gained the serve. Alvidrez sent a hit into the net, but the next serve from Saenz sailed out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 2-7.

Underwood was blocked by McNeese for a kill, but the next serve from Rodriguez sailed out of bounds, making the score, 3-8. Both teams sent a hit off of the mark and Balderas sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 410. A kill attempt from McNeese landed out of bounds on the sideline, and Idalou followed it up with a kill to extend their lead to, 4--

McNeese had a hit fall in for a kill and on the next play, Underwood was blocked by Miller for a kill to cut the lead to, 6-12. Stephens had a tip sail out of bounds for Idalou and McNeese followed it up with an ace, before Underwood delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Miller, making the score, 8-13.

Both teams sent a hit into the net and Idalou sent a kill out of bounds to make the score, 10-14. Idalou scored a kill off of a block attempt by Miller, but on the next play a dig from Rodriguez went out of bounds off of Idalou to make the score, 11-15. Idalou would score three consecutive points, before a kill from Vargas was hit out of bounds by Kiyah McCauley, trimming the lead to, 12-18.

Alvidrez senta hit into the net for Idalou and Roye was blocked by McNeese for a kill on the next play, as Idalou took a time out to talk things over with their lead cut to, 1418. Out of the break, Vargas scored a kill in the back corner of the court to cut the lead to, 15-18, and Saenz followed it up with an ace off of Underwood to make the score, 16-18.

McNeese delivered a block for a kill to make it a one-point game, but Saenz’s next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 16-19. Idalou would close out set two, on a, 6-1, scoring runs to take the set, 17-25, going up 0-2 in the match.

Idalou jumped out to an, 02, start in set three, before McNeese blocked Underwood for a kill, making the score, 1-2. Idalou answered with back-to-back points, before Roye sent a serve sailing out of bounds, making the score, 2-4. Vargas served up an ace and Stephens sent a dig into the net to tie the set, 4-4.

Stephens sent a tip short of the net, but some miscommunication on the next play by Littlefield tied the set, 5-5. Idalou rattled off three points in a row, before Stovall sent a serve out of bounds, making the score, 6-8. McNeese capitalized with an ace and Idalou had a hit fall short of the net on the next play to knot up the set, 8-8.

Underwood sent back-toback hits off of the mark, as Idalou took a time out trailing Littlefield, 10-8. Out of the break, McNeese’s serve fell short of the net and on the next play, Seymore sent a hit out of bounds tying the set, 10-10. Miller was called for a carry, but she responded, winning a tip battle at the net on the next play and Underwood sent a hit out of bounds for Idalou on the next play, putting Littlefield back in front, 13-11.

Seymore sent a kill past the back row of Idalou, but on the next play, a dig from Seymore landed out of bounds, trimming their lead to, 14-12. Idalou sent a kill sailing out of bounds and Vargas followed it up with a kill off of the Idalou block attempt to push their lead to, 16-12. Idalou would battle back and tie the set, 16-16, after a hit into the net from Rodriguez and after going back and forth for several points, a hit by Balderas fell short of the net, sparking a four-point rally for Idalou, that ended when Roye sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 19-22.

Stephens delivered a kill off of Seymore, but she would answer on the next play, as she had a kill tipped out of bounds by Idalou to make the score, 20-23. Littlefield would battle back to make the score, 23-24, on a kill from Seymore, but after an Idalou timeout, Idalou scored a kill to close out the set, 23-25, and the match, 0-3.
