Nettes blast Smyer, 80-24, on the road

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team got back in the win column on Tuesday with an, 8024, road victory over Smyer in district play.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 14-8 overall, 5-1 in district play.

The Nettes jumped out to a, 203, lead in the first quarter, but the Lady Cats outscored Sudan, 9-6, in the second frame to trim the lead to, 26-12, going into the locker room at halftime.

However, the Nettes, came out how in the second half, pouring in 26 points in the third quarter and 28 points in the fourth quarter en route to the blowout victory over Smyer, 80-24.

Stevi Lockhart led the team in scoring with 20 points, to go along with four rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks. Joining her in double-figures scoring were Gracyn Shultz, who tallied 14 points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals, and Braelyn Pointer, who chipped in 13 points, three assists and two rebounds.

Edette Herrera contributed eight points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists, while Elaine Martinez chipped in seven points, five steals, three rebounds and one assist, and Kambry Tolbert added seven points, five rebounds and two steals. Blessy Montes contributed five points, two rebounds and one assist, while Melo Rodriguez tallied four points, four steals and two rebounds.

Brianna Sanchez added two points, two rebounds and one steal, while Landree Gonzales finished with one rebound and one steal.

The Nettes closed out the first half of district play on Friday with a home game against New Deal. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday with a home game against Lockney.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
