Hornets compete at Caprock Classic

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity basketball team competed at the Caprock Classic this past week, where they went 0-4 on the tournament.

In their first game against McKinney Christian Academy, The Hornets fell, 85-23.

Caleb Groekten led the team in scoring with eight points, while Ryan Huddleston chipped in six points and Trent Wilson added five points. Braxtyn Harrell and Jon Conley each finished with two points in the contest.

In their second game against New Way Christian, the Hornets fell, 59-31.

Huddleston led the team in scoring with 10 points, while Groekten tallied eight points and Wilson netted seven points. Slade Nickels, Derek Rosa and Harrell each finished with two points in the contest.

In game three of their tournament, the Hornets fell to the Anton Bulldogs, 70-48.

Tony Vargas tallied 14 points, while Groekten netted 13 points and Wilson finished with 10 points. Huddleston added three points and Nickels, Rosa, Harrell and Joel Williams each finished with two points in the contest.

In their final game on the tournament on Saturday, the Hornets fell to Founders Christian School, 57-32.

Sal Juarez tallied nine points to lead the team, while Groekten netted seven points and Wilson finished with six points. Huddleston and Nickels each tallied three points, while Vargas and Conley each finished with two points.

The Hornets resumed district play on Tuesday with a home game against Olton. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Friday with a road game against Hale Center.

Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
