Amherst comes up short against Panthers, 58-30

The Amherst Bulldogs’ varsity basketball team dropped their first meeting of the season to Whitharral on Tuesday night, 58-30.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 3-3 in district play on the year.

The Panthers took a narrow lead, 12-10, at the end of the first quarter, but they opened things up in the second frame, outscoring the Bulldogs, 20-7, to take a, 32-17, lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, Amherst was outscored, 11-7, in the third quarter, and, 15-6, in the fourth quarter, as the Bulldogs fell to the Panthers, 58-30.

Joel Garcia and Gabriel Garcia each poured in eight points to lead the team in scoring, while Isaac Herrera chipped in seven points and Kevin Garcia finished with three points.

Oscar Medrano and Hector Perez each added two points in the contest.

The Bulldogs begin the second half of district play on Tuesday with a road game against the Meadow Broncos.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
