Yesway offers support to the Uvalde Community through its Uvalde Strong Fundraising Campaign

Customers are invited to join and donate at all Yesway and Allsup’s store locations Yesway, one of the country’s fastest growing convenience store chains, today announced its Uvalde Strong fundraising campaign, created to offer support to the Uvalde, Texas community that has been so tragically impacted as the result of a mass shooting at a local elementary school last month that claimed the lives of 19 children and two teachers. Through June 30, 2022, Yesway and Allsup’s customers will be invited to make $1.00, $5.00, $10.00 (or larger) donations at checkout.

Hospital Board to meet Tuesday

A regular meeting of the Board of Managers of the Lamb County Hospital will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 12 noon in the Education Room of Lamb Healthcare Center, 1500 South Sunset in Littlefield.

Library starting kids Gardening Club, Baby Story Time Lap Sit

Lamb County Library to host a kids gardening club to get kids to love nature and art. Assistant Librarian, Tori Dennis, will be teaching kids how to start gardening and different components about gardening in West Texas, while incorporating painting, sculpting, and snacks.

BABE RUTH 18U STATE CHAMPIONS – The Sudan Nettes 18u Softball team competed in Hereford this past weekend at the Babe Ruth State Softball Tournament, where they brought home the Championship. Sudan lost both of their pool play games to Hereford, 4-3, and to Littlefield, 8-3. They then bounced back in bracket play to beat Littlefield, 8-6, then beat Hereford in the championship, 4-2. This qualifies them for the Southwest Regional, which will be held in July in Brownfield. The Lamb County Leader-News is proud to introduce the newest member of our staff, Samantha Pontius, who will be taking on the General News side of things here at the office. Pontius attended Brookhaven Community College before transferring to Texas Tech University in 2019.

Anton man dies from dog attack

The Hockley County Sheriff’s Office reported that three dogs attacked a man on June 10 th in Anton, who was found dead in his driveway. The victim, identified as 57-year-old Andrew Woods, appears to have died in the attack, and was found surrounded by three dogs when officers arrived.

Preventive maintenance planned for South Plains Roads

A Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) preventive maintenance project to seal coat more than 415 miles of various roadways across the South Plains is scheduled to begin next week. Project contactor Lipham Asphalt and Paving Company. LLC, of Aspermont, TX, is scheduled to begin work Monday, June 20, on FM 28 in Floyd County.
