The Springlake-Earth Wolverines’ varsity football team picked up a big win over the Petersburg Buffaloes on Friday, 61-16, on the road.
With the win, the Wolverines improve to 5-3 overall, 2-1 in district play.
Offensively, Jerry Gallegos finished the game eight-of-12 passing for 122 yards and four touchdowns, while adding 13 carries for 201 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Dereck Rosalez tallied two catches for 24 yards and two touchdowns, while Timothy Tovar added two catches for 20 yards and one touchdown and Gonzales finished with one catch for 22 yards and one touchdown.
Tyler Tanaro tallied one catch for 20 yards and one touchdown, while JJ Jaramillo contributed one carry for 30 yards and one touchdown on the ground and Roel Fuentes finished with seven carries for 27 yards and one catch for 21 yards. Slade Beerwinkle had one completion and a 20-yard touchdown reception.
Defensively, Jaramillo finished with 16 tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and three made field goals. He also averaged 23 yards per punt. Fuentes tallied 14 tackles, six sacks/tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and one blocked field goal, while Beerwinkle chipped in 11 tackles, five sacks/tackles for loss and one fumble recovery.
Cain Tovar contributed 18 tackles, one sack/tackle for loss, one interception and one fumble recovery, while Rosalez added eight tackles, three sacks/tackles for loss and one forced fumble. Josh Tovar finished with one tackle and Gavin Gonzales finished with eight tackles and three sacks/tackles for loss.
The Wolverines will host Lorenzo on Friday night for senior night.
Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
