Wolverines bite Bulldogs in first meeting, 85-27

The Springlake-Earth Wolverines’ varsity basketball team throttled the Amherst Bulldogs in their first meeting of the season, 85-27.

With the win, the Wolverines improve to 8-3 overall, 5-0 in district play.

The Wolverines jumped on top of the Bulldogs early, pouring in 26 points to open the game. They outscored Amherst, 20-12, in quarter number two to take a, 46-16, lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, the Wolverines outscored the Bulldogs, 19-7, in the third quarter and, 20-4, in the fourth quarter to take the contest, 85-27.

Junior, Evan DeLeon, led the Wolverines in scoring with a gamehigh 24 points, and he was joined in double-figures scoring by juniors, Kaden Castillo and Keshan Holmes, who finished with 19 points and 12 points, respectively. Jaramillo also had 10 points, while junior, Trace Goodman, tallied nine points and Timothy Tenaro and Alex Alvarez each added four points and senior, Daryl Garcia, finished with three points.

Junior, Jaime Garcia, and sophomore, Gabriel Garcia, led the team in scoring with seven points each, while freshman, Diego Aguilar, finished with six points, Isaac Herrera finished with three points and Gonzales and senior, Omar Reyes, fmished with two points each.

The Wolverines will return to action on Tuesday with a home game against Cotton center to close out the first half of district play.

The Bulldogs were at home against Cotton Center on Friday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday against Lazbuddie.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
