The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity football team suffered a tough loss at the hands of the Post Antelopes. They will look to bounce back this week as they host the Idalou Wildcats for Homecoming on Friday.

The Wildcats totaled 147 yards of offense; 146 rushing yards and one passing yard.

“We knew going in that we were playing an awfully good Post team, but we didn’t help ourselves out,” Head Coach Brent Green said. “We didn’t execute very well offensively or defensively and that thing snowballed on us in a hurry. The biggest thing we learned from it was when we watched the film Saturday morning and seeing that we’re continuing to make mistakes that we don’t need to be making. We need to correct that stuff going forward.”

Junior tailback, Ty’Jae Chambers, led the team with 32 carries for 138 yards and one touchdown, while senior slotback, Xavier Esquibel, chipped in three carries for 11 yards and senior slotback, Joseph Salinas, added two carries for seven yards.

Defensively, Tavion Ivery led the team in tackles with five and had three assists, while linebackers Chris Brown and Javen Jimenez each added four tackles and two assists. Jordan Trevino chipped in three tackles and one assist, while Salinas, Ryan West and ethan Garcia each added two tackles.

Coach Green talked about their match-up with Idalou, saying, “Their quarterback and their tailback are both really good athletes. Their quarterback was their tailback last year when their running back, who is back this year, went down with an injury. Both of those guys run the ball really well. They’re a 93% run football team, so they’re obviously run heavy, so we’re going to have to step up and be tough against the run this week.”

The Coach talked about the way his team has responded from last week’s loss, saying, “I was pleased with the way the guys bounced back this week, starting at 6:30 a.m. Monday morning with weights. By that afternoon they were ready to get back on the field, so preparation has been good.”

Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium in Littlefield on Friday.
