Wildcats fall to Mustangs, 11-4, to close regular season

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball team closed out the regular season on Friday with a home loss to the Denver City Mustangs, 11-4, at Wildcat Field.

With the loss, the Wildcats finish the regular season with a mark of 12-10 overall, 4-4 in district play.

Denver City jumped in front early scoring three runs in the top of the first inning and one run in each of the next two innings, taking a, 5-0, lead into the fourth inning.

Littlefield kept the Mustangs quiet in the top of the fourth, while pushing four runs across in the home-half of the inning to cut the lead to, 5-4. Littlefield would be kept scoreless the rest of the game, while Denver City added two runs in the top of the sixth and four runs in the top of the seventh to take the contest, 11-4.

Markus Rosales threw 3.1 innings for the Wildcats, giving up four hits, two walks and four runs, while earning one strikeout. Isaiah Rodriguez pitched 0.1 innings giving up three walks, to hits and two runs, while earning one strike out. Ian Mendez also pitched 0.1 innings and Xavier Champion pitched three innings, giving up four hits, three walks and five runs, four earned, while earning one strikeout.

At the plate, the Wildcats totaled five hits as a team, led by Bradyn Redman, who finished with two RBI’s and one hit. Rosales tallied one RBI, one hit for a triple and one walk, while Ian Mendez chipped in two hits including a double. Chip Green added two walks and Adam MacDonald finished with one hit in the contest.

The Wildcats will take on Crane in the Class 3A Bi-district round of the play-offs. Game one is set for Friday at 7 p.m., while Game 2 will be Saturday at 3 p.m. with Game 3 to follow if Necessary.

All games will be played in Seminole.
