The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell to the Childress Lady Cats last Tuesday, 0-3, in their first meeting of district play.
With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 0-2 in district play.
Childress jumped out to an, 0-5 lead in set 1, before a block by Mariah Everage landed out ofbounds, giving the serve to Littlefield. Maggie McNeese would get called for being on the net during a block attempt, turning the serve back over to Childress, but Ava Everage sent a hit into the net making the score, 2-6.
Kinley Galligan answered with a kill off of Abby Rodriguez, but the next serve from Sara Davis sailed out of bounds making the score, 3-7. Rylee Miller followed it up with a block on Harley Carrasco for a kill and Kinley Galligan sent a hit into the net on the next play to cut the lead to, 5-7. McNeese followed it up with an ace, before Ava Everage delivered a kill past Miller to regain the serve for Childress.
The teams went back and forth for several points, before a long dig by McNeese was killed at the net by Carrasco, sparking a four-point rally for Childress. Rodriguez regained the serve for Littlefield with a kill oft'ofCarrasco, but Mariah Everage answered with a kill in front of Jaidyn Saenz to make the score, 9-15.
Littlefield took a time out, and out of the break, Childress’ serve was off of the mark short of the net, and Rodriguez followed it up with an ace off of Avety Keys, cutting the lead to, 11-15. A few plays later, Mattie Seymore sent a kill past Davis to make it a one-point game, 16-17, but Ava Everage answered with a kill to regain the serve for Childress.
She followed it up with an ace offofMcNeese, but Miller responded on the next play with a kill off of Angelique Rodriguez’s block attempt to make the score, 17-19. Anaei Ojeda served up an ace off of Camtsco, as Childress took a time out with their lead cut to one point, 18-19.
Out of the break, Carrasco delivered a kill off of Abby Rodriguez, sparking a fourpoint rally, that ended when Davis was called for touching the net on a tip, making the score, 19-23. Seymore’s serve fell short of the net, but Abby Rodriguez responded with a kill off of Kinley Galligan to trim the lead to, 20-24. Kylan Galligan sent a hit into the net for Childress and a hit by Abby Rodriguez tipped the net for a kill, as Childress took another time out with their lead cut to, 22-24.
Out of the break, Kylan Galligan delivered a kill toclose out the set, 22-25, giving Childress a 0-1 lead in the match.
In set two, Littlefield found themselves in an, 0-4, hole early, butthey would battle back to tie the set, 5-5, on an illegal front row attack by Mar ¡ah Everage. Littlefield couldn’t capitalize on the momentum, as they were called for four hits on the next play, turning the serve back over to Childress.
Childress scored back-toback points on kilss from Eva Everage and Kinley Galligan, but the next serve from Davis sailed out of bounds, making the score, 6-8. Anna Vargas served up an ace before sending her next serve short of the net, and a tip by Abby Rodriguez on the next play fell short of the net, pushing the lead out to, 7-10.
Seymore had a hit blocked by Carrasco for a kill, sparking an eight-point rally before a hit by McNeese was dug out by of bounds, making the score, 8-18. Littlefield would continue to battle back, before ultimately falling, 13-25, after a hit by Vargas sailed out of bounds, putting Childress up, 0-2, in the match.
Littlefield started set three in an, 0-6, hole, before Keys sent a serve short of the net. Childress quickly regained the Everage tupped the net for a kill, making the score, 1-7. Chilldress would extend their lead to, 2-11, before Vargas dropped a tip in front of the block attempt by Carrasco, making the score, 3-11.
A kill from Eva Everage sailed out ofbounds offofFaith Balderas, but a set by Davis on the next play floated over bounds, trimming the lead to, 4-12. The next serve from Abby Rodriguez went out of bounds off of Auburn Green, but Keys answered with a tip off of the block attempt by McNeese, making the score, 5-13.
