Wildcats clip Cranes in extra innings to take game 1

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball team won an extra inning thriller on Friday in Seminole, as they took game one of their three-game series over the Crane Golden Cranes, 3-2, in nine innings.

With the win, the Wildcats improved to 13-10 overall on the year.

Crane jumped out to a, 1-0, lead in the first inning, but Littlefield answered with two runs in the top of the second, making the score, 2-1, going into the third inning. Both teams would go scoreless in the third and the Golden Cranes kept the Wildcats quiet in the top of the fourth, before scratching a run across in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game, 2-2.

A pitchers duel would take place over the next four innings, as the game moved to the ninth inning. Littlefield would break through in the top of the inning to take a, 3-2 lead, and in the bottom half, Major McNeese recorded an out before exhausting his pitch count and Ian Mendez recorded the final two outs, as the Wildcats closed out the Golden Cranes in game one, 32.

McNeese pitched 8.1 innings, giving up two walks, six hits and two runs, one earned, while recording three strike outs. Mendez pitched 0.2 innings recording one strikeout.

At the plate, the Wildcats collected five hits as a team led by Adam MacDonald, who finished with two RBI’s and one hit. Isaiah Rodriguez tallied one RBI, while Chip Green finished with one hit for a double and a walk and McNeese added one hit and a walk. Markus Rosales finished with three walks in the contest.
