SUDAN FALLS TO WINK, 53-29, IN FIRST ROUND OF PLAY-OFFS

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity football team saw their season come to an end in the Class 2A Division II Bi-district round of the play-offs on Thursday, as they fell to Wink, 53-29.

The Hornets finish the season with an overall mark of 5-6.

Kanon Gibson got Wink off and running in the first quarter with a 10-yard touchdown pass, but Sudan senior quarterback, Bode Box, answered with an 82-yard touchdown run followed by the PAT by Abram Rodriguez to put the Hornets in front, 7-6. Wink would respond with a 19-yard touchdown run to regain the lead, 14-7, as the first quarter came to a close.

Brock Gibson got the second quarter going for Wink with a 15-yard pick-six to extend their lead to, 20-7. Wink would put in two more touchdown on the ground to take a, 33-7, lead into the locker room at halftime.

Kanon Gibson threw for a nine-yard touchdown to open the second half, but Box got the Hornets on the board again with a 14-yard touchdown pass to trim the lead to, 40-15. Wink, however, answered with back-to-back touchdowns to push their lead to, 53-15, heading into the final quarter of play.

In the final frame, senior running back, Rustin Penrod, rushed for a one yard touchdown and later in the fourth quarter, Penrod caught a 96-yard touchdown pass from Box, but the Hornets fell short against Wink, 53-29, as their season came to a close.

Box finished the game eightof-16 for 150 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. He also added six carries for 88 yards and one touchdown.

Penrod led the receiving game with one catch for 96 yards and one touchdown. He also added a touchdown on the ground. Salvador Juarez caught two passes for 15 yards, while Michael Limon had one catch for 13 yards.
