Sudan falls to Bovina, 25-21

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity football team stumbled against the Bovina Mustangs on the road in their district-opener, dropping the contest, 25-21.

Bovina quarterback, Cole Emery got the scoring started in the first quarter with a three-yard touchdown run, putting the Mustangs up, 7-0, after the PAT. Senior quarterback, Bode Box, answered later in the quarter, rushing for a 39- yard touchdown. Box ran it in for the two-point conversion to put Sudan out in front, 8-7. In the second quarter, Darian Delarosa caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Emery to put Bovina back in front, 13-8. The Mustangs followed it up with a 10-yard fumble return for a touchdown to push the lead to, 19-8.

Sudan added another score to close out the first half with a 28- yard touchdown pass by Trent Wilson. The PAT by Abram Rodriguez was no good, leaving the score, 19-14, going into the locker room at halftime.

Box caught a 61-yard touchdown pass from Garison Bohler to put Sudan out in front, 21-19, but later in the quarter, Delarosa rushed for a 21-yard touchdown to give the Mustangs the lead, 25- 21

Ṫhe score would stand as Sudan fell short in their comebackefforts.

Wilson finished the game six-of-seven passing for 85 yards and one touchdown. Bohler was one-of-two for 61 yards and one touchdown. Box led the rushing attack with

In the receiving game, Jordie Bellar had two catches for 85 yards, while Box finished with one catch for 61 yards and one touchdown.

The Hornets are open next week and will take on Ropes on Oct. 23 rd . Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
