OLTON MUSTANGS TAKE DOWN Wolverines, 85-56

The 2A ranked Olton Mustangs went on the road Tuesday night and took down the Springlake-Earth Wolverines, 85-56.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 5-0 on the year, while the Wolverines fall to 1-2 overall on the season.

The Mustangs came out ofthe gate strong, as Israel Santillan got them going with a jumper fl omthe left wing, which was followed up with a three from the right wing by Chris Urbina, offofthe assist from Jake Soliz, making the score, 5-0, with less than a minute gone in the opening quarter.

Urbina knocked down a jumper in the lane, as Springlake-Earth took a time out to talk things over, trailing the Mustangs, 7-0, with 6:35 remaining in the first

Out of the break, junior forward, Keshan Holmes, dropped in a lay-up off of the assist from junior guard, Evan DeLeon, to get the Wolverines on the board. With 5:07 to play in the quarter, Holmes was fouled on an attemptby Urbina. He made one out of two at the line, trimming the lead to, 7-a

Senior, JackAllcom, drove the lane for Olton, dumping the ball off to senior, Bryson Ramage, fora lay-up, to pushtheirleadbackoutto, 9-3. Holmes scored a put-back off of a miss by DeLeon, but on the other end, Ramage scored a put-back offofhis own miss to make the score, 11-5, with 4:12 left to play in the first quartet

Allcom took a charge on Holmes, but the Wolverines were able to regain possession, as sophomore, Braxton Ethridge, dropped in a lay-up offofthe assist from DeLeon, cutting the lead to, 11-7. Joe Canchola knocked down a jumper fl of the right wing for Olton,butDeLeon answered, driving the right side ofthe basket for a lay-up, trimming the lead to, 13-9, with just under three minutes to play in the quartet

DeLeon knoclazd down a three from the left elbow to make it a one-point game, 13-12, as Olton called for atime out with 2:28 to play in the quartet Out of the break, Santillan buried a three from the right wing and Urbina followed it up with a put-back to stretch the Olton lead back out to, 18-12

With just over one minute remaining in the quarter, Urbina spun to his left to get to the basket for a lay-up, making it an eight-point lead, 20-12. Junior, Kaden Castillo, knocked down a jumper in the lane, drawing an andone foul on Olton. He converted the free throw, but on the other end, Urbina, buried a three from the left elbow to close out the first quarter with the Mustangs in front, 25-15.

Urbina knocked down a stop-and-pop jumper in the lane to open the second quarter, but Castillo answered with a fade-away jumper in the lane on the other end, to make the score, 27-17. Urbina got out in front on a fast-break for a lay-up, but the Wolverines against answered as Timothy Tanaro scored a put-back offofa miss by Castillo to trim the lead to, 29-19.

Soliz drained a three fiom the top of the key and Andrew Martinez followed it up with a three from the right elbow, pushing their lead out to, 35-19, with 4:41 to play in the first half. Urbina dropped in a bucket for Olton, as the Wolverines called for a time out to talk things over with 4:19 to play in the half

Out ofthe break, Martinez knocked down a three from the right elbow and Olton Head Coach Bobby Workman took a time out with 3:31 remaining in the half Out of the break, Ramage dropped in a lay-up, drawing an andone foul on Castillo. He converted the free throw, stretching their lead out to, 43-19.

Castillo was called fora charge, but on the Wolverines next possession, DeLeon was fouled on an attempt by Soliz. He split the flee throws, trimming the lead to, 43-20. With 1:20 remaining in the half, senior, Aldo Vasquez, dropped in a reverse lay-up in transition pushing their lead back outto, 45-20.

DeLeon knocked down a tear-drop floater from the right side and Dereck Rosales scored a put-back, drawing an and-one foul on Urbina. The flee throw was no good, leaving the score, 45-24. Urbina knoclod down a jumper from the left wing for Olton, but in the closing seconds, DeLeon was fouled on the floor by Vasquez, earning a one-in-one opportunity at the line. He converted both fire throws to make the score, 47-26, going into the locker room athalftime.

Castillo hitjunior, Trace Goodman, for a jumper from the right wing to open the second half, and DeLeon followed it up with a lay-up off of a steal to cut the lead to, 47-30. But, Urbina knocked down a jumper from the right wing off of the assist from Allcom to get the Mustangs on the board in the second half.

Castillo knocked down abucket for the Wolverines and Goodman followed it up with a jumperfromthe left elbow off of the assist from Tanaro, trimming the lead to, 49-34. But, Olton would respond, as Santillan buried a three from the top ofthe key offofthe assist fromAllcom, making the score, 52-34, with 5:14 remaining in the third quarter.

Tanaro knocked down a three from the right elbow, but Allcorn quickly answered with a three from the left elbow off ofthe assist from Vasquez. Holmes dropped in a bucket for the Wolverines, but again the Mustangs responded, as Vasquez grabbed a defensive rebound and went coast-to-coast for a lay-up, pushing the Olton lead to, 57-39.

Urbina drained athree fl omthe right wing for Olton, drawing an and-one foul on Goodman. The free throw was no good, but Allcom got the offensive rebound and put-back, making the score, 62-39, with 3:21 remaining in the quarter.

Santillan knocked down a jumper in the lane, but on the other end, Holmes was fouled on an attempt by Canchola. He split the free throws, trimming the lead to, 64-40. Allcorn answered with a three from the right elbow off ofthe assist from Santillan, but Castillo came right back for Springlake-Earth with back-to-back buckets to cut the lead to, 67-44.

In the closing seconds of the quarter, Allcom knocked down a pull-up jumper from the right wing, extending their lead to, 69-44, heading into the final quarter ofplay.

Castillo dropped in a tear-drop in the lane off of the assist from Goodman,butRamageansweredwith a put-back off ofhis own miss, drawing an and-one foul on Holmes. He converted the fire throw, making the score, 72-46. On their next possession, Ramage dropped in a floater in the lane, drawing an and-one foul on DeLeon; he again converted the fire throw to finish offthe three-point-play, stretching their lead to, 75-46, with 6:27 to play in the quarter.

Olton took a time out with 6:21 remaining, and out ofthe break, Holmes dropped in a lay-up and DeLeon followed it up with a three from the top of the key, cutting the lead to, 75-51. Soliz knocked down a pull-up jumper over Castillo in the lane and Holmes and Urbina exchanged lay-ups, making the score, 79-53, with 4:12 remaining in the game.

Urbina was fouled on a put-back attempt by Tanaro; he sank both free throws, pushing their lead out to, 81-53. Vasquez dropped in a lay-up offof the assist from Santillan, but Castillo answered for the Wolverines with a lay-up on the left baseline to make the score, 83-55, with justunder three minutes remaining in the contest.

DeLeon was fouled on a three-point attempt by Canchola; he converted two out of three fire throws to trim the lead to, 83-57. On the next play, DeLeon was fouled on an attempt by Ty Struve; he split the fire throws, making the score, 83-58.

With time winding down, Ramage was fouled on a three-point attempt by DeLeon and made two-of-three shots from the line to close out the game for the Mustangs with the score, 85-58.

Urbina led the Mustangs in scoring with a game-high 30 points. He was joined in double-figures scoring by Ramage, who netted 16 points and Santillan, who finished with 10 points. Allcom chipped in nine points, while Vasquez and Martinez each contributed sixpoints and Soliz finished with five points.

The Wolverines were led by DeLeon, who finished with 18 points and was joined in double figures by Castillo, who finished with 13 points and Holmes who netted 12 points. Tanaro tallied five points, while Goodman notched four points and Ethridge and Rosales each added two points in the contest.

The Mustangs went on the road on Friday to take on the Bushland Falcons and hosted Loop on Saturday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday with a road game at Sundown to take on the Roughnecks at 7:30pm.

The Wolverines were at Littlefield on Friday to take on the Wildcats. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday against the Lazbuddie Longhorns.
