The 19th ranked Olton Mustangs’ varsity basketball team won a New Year’s Eve contest over the Muleshoe Mules last Thursday, 73-41.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 11-1 overall on the season

In the first quarter, Olton jumped out to a, 25-7, lead behind eight points from Chris Urbina and 14 points from Israel Santillan. In the second quarter, Alex Santillan went five-of-five from the free-throw line, as the Mustangs extended their lead to, 37-15, heading into the locker room at halftime.

Olton netted 17 points in the third quarter and 19 points in the fourth quarter to take the contest, 73-41.

Urbina and Israel Santillan led the team in scoring, each pouring in a game-high 19 points, while Alex Martinez joined him in double-figures scoring with 11 points.

Aldo Vasquez tallied nine points, while Alex Santillan contributed eight points and Jack Allcorn chipped in five points. Jake Soliz finished with two points in the contest.
