OLTON MUSTANGS BLAST VEGA LONGHORNS, 93-32

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity basketball team opened district play on Friday with a blowout victory over the Vega Longhorns, 93-32.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 16-1 overall, 1-0 in district play.

Olton came out hot with a 22-point first quarter, taking a, 22-9, lead into the second frame. They added 25 points in the second quarter, behind 11 points from senior, Jack Allcorn, making the score, 47-21, going into the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter, Allcorn knocked down a pair of threes and Israel Santillan poured in six points to help the Mustangs extend their lead to, 71-28, heading into the final quarter of play.

In the final frame, Andrew Martinez buried four three’s to help the Mustangs close out their district-opener with a, 93-32, victory over the Longhorns.

Allcorn led the way for the Mustangs with 26 points, while Martinez netted 17 points and Chris Urbina finished with 15 points. Israel Santillan tallied 14 points, while Bryson Ramage netted seven points and Alex Santillan and Ty Struve each added four points. Jake Soliz and Aldo Vasquez each finished with three points in the contest.

The Mustangs were at Boys Ranch on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Friday with a showdown on the road with the #15 Farwell Steers.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
