Olton falls to Lions, 48-17

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity football team fell to 5-3 overall on Friday, as they fell to the New Deal Lions, 48-17, dropping them to 1-2 in district play.

New Deal jumped out to a, 41-0, lead in the first half, but senior kicker, Logan Lassiter, got the Mustangs on the board in the third quarter with a 38-yard field goal to trim the lead to, 41-3, heading into the final quarter of play.

The Lions rushed for a threeyard touchdown run to open the fourth quarter and they nailed the PAT to push the lead back out to, 48-3.

Lassiter would connect with Joel Olivas Jr. for a 19-yard passing touchdown and drilled the PAT to cut the lead to, 48-10. Later in the quarter, Lassiter would find Jake Soliz on a 33-yard touchdown pass to make the score, 48-17, after the PAT, as the Mustangs came up short against the Lions in district action.

Lassiter finished the game, seven-of-27 passing for 78 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.

In the rushing game, Baldo Garcia carried the ball 13 times for 62 yards and Christian Chancy had seven carries for 15 yards.

Olivas Jr., finished with five catches for 41 yards and a touchdown, while Soliz tallied two catches for 37 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, the Mustangs recovered three fumbles and hauled in one interception.

The Mustangs will be at Tahoka on Friday to take on the Bulldogs.

Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
