Nettes suffer first district loss against Sundown

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team suffered their first loss of district play on Tuesday on the road against Sundown, 60-46.

With the loss, the Nettes fall to 13-12 overall, 6-1 in district play.

Sundown jumped out to a, 14-9, lead in the first quarter and both teams poured in 13 points in the second frame to make the score, 27-22, going into the locker room at halftime.

Sundown edged out the Nettes, 12-10, in the third quarter and poured in 21 points in the final frame to take the contest, 60-46.

Junior, Addison Boehning, led the team posting a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three steals and one assist. Sophomore, Stevi Lockhart, joined her in double-figures scoring with 13 points, to go along with three rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.

Junior, Liz Sital, tallied six points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist, while sophomore, Gracyn Shultz, chipped in five points, two rebounds and two assists. Senior, Zoey Cantu, contributed three points and one rebound, while sophomore, Braelyn Pointer, added two points four rebounds and one assist.

Sophomore, Landree Gonzales, added three rebounds, while junior, Sydney Cornelius, tallied two rebounds and one steal and sophomore, Elaine Martinez, finished with one rebound and one assist. Sophomore, Riley Edens, also had one rebound in the contest.

The Nettes hosted Morton on Friday to close out the regular season. Results were not available at press time.

The Nettes will open the 2A Basketball Play-offs on Thursday, Feb. 11th at Lubbock-Cooper where the will take on the Post Lady Lopes in the Bi-district round of the play-offs.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
