Nettes slay Lady Lions, 71-37, for Area Trophy

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team cruised past the Ozone Lady Lions on Tuesday, 71-37, to claim the Class 2A Region I Area Championship at Big Spring High School.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 16-12 overall.

Sudan jumped out to a, 17-4, lead in the first quarter and outscored Ozone, 18-14, in the second quarter to take a, 35-18, lead into the locker room at halftime.

Sudan came out strong in the third quarter, pouring in 20 points to extend their lead to, 55-24, heading into the final quarter of play. The Nettes closed out the game with a 16-point fourth quarter to take the contest, 71-37.

Junior, Addison Boehning, tallied 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists and one steal, while sophomore, Stevi Lockhart, contributed 17 points, four rebounds four assists and two steals. Sophomore, Gracyn Shultz, posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with four steals and one assist.

Junior, Liz Sital, chipped in seven points, five steals, four assists and one rebound, while sophomore, Landree Gonzales, contributed five points, two rebounds and one steal and sophomore, Braelyn Pointer, added five points, six rebounds, three assists and one steal.

Junior, Sydney Cornelius, tallied three points and three rebounds, while sophomore, Riley Edens tallied two points, three rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block. Senior, Zoey Cantu, chipped in three rebounds and one steal, while sophomore, Kambry Tolbert, contributed one assist and one steal and sophomore, Elaine Martinez, finished with one assist and one steal.

The Nettes played the Ropes Lady Eagles in the 2A Regional Quarterfinal at Levelland on Thursday. Results were not available at press time.
