Nettes hold off late push from Fillies, 62-48

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team took down the Olton Fillies in Olton on Tuesday night, 62-48.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 9-11 overall, while the Fillies fall to 9-9 overall.

It was a tight game early-on with Sudan holding a threepoint lead, 16-13, heading into quarter number two. The Nettes stretched their lead to, 37-29, with a 21-point second quarter and added 15 points in the third quarter to push their lead out to, 52-37.

In the fourth quarter, Olton outscored Sudan, 11-9, but fell short, as the Nettes took the contest, 62-48.

Junior, Addison Boehning, led the Nettes with 19 points, nine rebounds, seven steals and two assists, while sophomore, Stevi Lockhart, finished with 19 points, three assists, two steals and one rebound.

Junior, Liz Sital, tallied 10 points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist, while sophomore, Braelyn Pointer, chipped in six points, two assists, two steals and one rebound and sophomore, Gracyn Shultz, contributed four points, three steals, two rebounds and two assists. Junior, Sydnie Cornelius, tallied four points, eight rebounds and one assist, while sophomore, Elaine Martinez, added one rebound, one assist and one steal and sophomore, Riley Edens, finished with one rebound and one steal.

The Fillies were led by Karla Arriola, who finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal. Makenly Smith tallied 13 points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal and Celestte Ramirez finished with eight points, eight rebounds, five steals and three assists.

Shaylee Leathers, tallied four points, six rebounds, three assists and one steal, while Kylee Noack chipped in four points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists. Jasmine Reyna notched three points and one assist and Marisa Rodriguez finished with one point and one rebound.

The Mustangs opened district play on Friday at home against Vega. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday with a road game against Boys Ranch. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
