Nettes hold off Cowgirls, 42-39

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team grinded out a tough win over the Plains Cowgirls on Tuesday, 42-39, to stay undefeated in district play.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 13-11 overall, 6-0 in district play.

It was a tightly contest game early-on, with the Nettes holding a three-point advantage, 18-15, after one quarter of play. The Nettes surged in the second quarter, outscoring the Cowgirls, 12-2, to take a 30-17, lead into the locker room at halftime.

Plains rallied in the second half outscoring the Nettes, 16-12, in the third quarter to cut the lead to, 42-33, heading into the final quarter ofplay. In the fourth quarter, Plains outscored the Nettes, 6-0, but the Nettes were able to hang on for the victory, 42-39.

Junior, Addison Boehning, led the Nettes with 15 points, eight rebounds, four steals, two blocks and one assist, while sophomore, Stevi Lockhart, tallied 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block. Sophomore, Gracyn Shultz, chipped in six points, five rebounds, two steals, two blocks and one assist, while junior, Liz Sital, contributed four points, four rebounds, four assists and one steal.

Junior, Sydney Cornelius, tallied three points and one rebound, while sophomore, Braelyn Pointer, notched three points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Sophomore, Elaine Martinez, added two rebounds and one assist, while senior, Zoey Cantu, added, two steals and one rebound. Sophomore, Landree Gonzales, finished with one rebound and sophomore, Kambry Tolbert, added one steal in the contest.

The Nettes will continue their season on Tuesday with a road game against the Sundown Roughettes.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
