The Sudan Nettes’ varsity softball team fell to Sundown on Saturday, 15-12, in their second meeting of district play.
With the loss, the Nettes fall to 1-1 in district play.
Sudan struck first in the top half of the first inning, but the Roughettes countered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to make the score, 3-2, going into the second inning. Sudan was kept quiet in the next three innings, as Sundown pushed six runs across in the second inning, and two runs across in both the third and four innings to extend their lead to, 13-2.
Sudan would not go down without a fight, as the Nettes scratched five runs across in the top of the fifth inning, while holding Sundown to just one run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score, 14-7.
Sudan tacked on two runs in the sixth inning and three in the seventh inning, as they fell short of a comeback against Sundown on Saturday, 15-12.
Gracyn Shultz led the team with three hits and six RBI’s, while Hailey Flores finished with two hits on the day. Liz Sital and Blessy Montes each tallied two RBI’s as well.
Montes pitched a complete game for the Nettes, finishing with eight strikeouts.
The Nettes were in action on Tuesday March 15 th when they hosted the Hale Center Lady Owls. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Saturday with a road game against the Lady Owls.
First-pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
