NETTES CRUISE PAST PLAINS COWGIRLS, 70-41

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team throttled the Plains Cowgirls on Friday, 70-41, to improve to 2-0 in district play.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 8-11 overall on the season.

It was a tight game early on, with Sudan holding on to an, 18-13, lead as the first quarter came to a close. But, in the second quarter, the Nettes’ offense was ignited, as they poured in 24 points to take a, 42-28, lead into the locker room at halftime.

Neither team really got it going in the third quarter, with the Nettes outscoring Plains, 9-8, to make the score, 51-36, heading into the final quarter of play. In the final quarter, Sudan netted 22 points to take the contest, 70-41.

Sophomore, Gracyn Shultz led the Nettes in scoring with 29 points, to go along with five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sophomore, Stevi Lockhart, chipped in 19 points, seven assists, six rebounds, two steals and one block, while junior, Liz Sital, tallied nine points, three steals two rebounds and one assist and junior, Addison Boehning, contributed five points, nine rebounds, seven steals, three assists and one block.

Sophomore, Riley Edens, tallied five points, while junior, Sydnie Cornelius, chipped in four rebounds, three points and two assists and senior, Zoey Cantu, finished with three points, two assists, one rebound and one steal. Sophomore, Braelyn Pointer, tallied two assists and one steal, while sophomore, Elaine Martinez, finished with two rebounds and one steal.

The Nettes had a non-district game against Olton on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will resume district play on Friday at home against Sundown.

Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
