Mustangs win Homecoming game over Hale Center, 33-12

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity football team won their Homecoming game over the Hale Center Owls on Friday, 33-12, at Mustang Stadium.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to, 3-1, overall on the season.

The game was deadlocked at, 0- 0, after one quarter, but the Mustangs broke it open in the second quarter, as junior quarterback, Logan Lassiter, connected with junior receiver, Jake Soliz, for an 82-yard touchdown. The PAT by Lassiter was good, putting the Mustangs in front, 7-0.

Lassiter would score on a six yard run later in the second quarter, making the score, 14-0, after the PAT, going into the locker room at halftime.

Out of the break, Solis caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from Lassiter and followed it up later in the quarter, as they connected again on a 46-yard touchdown pass to make the score, 27-0, after the PAT.

Hale Center would strike in the fourth quarter, as they scored on a two-yard run, but failed on the two-point conversion, making the score, 27-6. Olton would answer, as senior running back, Josue Castro-Barajas, pounded his way into the endzone on a 16-yard run. The PAT by Lassiter was no good, leaving the score, 33-6.

The Owls would score again on a 12-yard passing touchdown later in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough, as the Mustangs came out victorious on Homecoming, 33-12.

Lassiter finished the game 10- 15 passing for 210 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He also added one rushing touchdown.

Castro-Barajas led the Olton rushing attack with 15 carries for 75 yards and one touchdown, while Josh Marquez added five carries for 54 yards and Eric Valencia added two carries for 25 yards.

In the receiving game, Soliz finished with six catches for 186 yards and three touchdowns, while Valencia added three catches for 14 yards and Andrew Martinez tallied one catch for 10 yards.

Defensively, the Mustangs had three interceptions and a fumble recovery.

The Mustangs will be at Smyer on Friday to close out the pre-district schedule.

Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
