Mustangs run-rule Ralls, 14-4, to split season series with the Jackrabbits

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity baseball team cruised to a run-rule victory in district play on Friday, as they took down the Ralls Jackrabbits, 14-4, at Mustang Field.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 7-10 overall, 4-2 in district play.

Ralls jumped out to a one-run lead in the top of the first inning, before both teams went scoreless in the second inning. The Jackrabbits scratched another run across in the top of the third, but the Mustangs were able battle back and push two runs across of their own to tie the game, 2-2, going into the fourth inning.

Olton outscored the Jackrabbits, 3-1 in the fourth inning and, 4-1, in the fifth inning to take a, 94, lead into the sixth inning. Olton was able to keep Ralls off the board in the top of the sixth, before scoring five runs in the homehalf of the inning to walk it off, 144.

At the plate, the Mustangs totaled 11 hits as a team, led by Cole Montgomery, who went 2 for four with six RBI’s, one run and three steals. Jacob Marquez was 2-3 at the plate with a double. He tallied one RBI and one steal and scored four runs.

Eddie Ramirez went 3-4 at the plate scoring one run and tallying two steals, while Jaxon Tomsu was 3-4 with a double and one RBI. He also recorded two runs.

Alan Vasquez pitched four innings for the Mustangs and picked up the win on Friday. He gave up one hit, five walks and three runs, one earned, while earning eighth strikeouts. Victor Reyes pitched two innings for the Mustangs giving up two walks and one run, while earning two strikeouts.
