This week’s edition of the Lamb County Leader-News’ Football Contest was a high scoring one.
Lucas Casas Jr. won this week’s contest with a perfect entry, while David Neinast, Evan Barrera, Jay Lee, Jimmy Davis Sr., Juanita Trevino, Lonnie Neinast, Mark Grace, Minnie Trevino, Stevy Smith and Tommy Cloninger all tied for second going 19-1.
The tie-breaker came from the NFL this week, with the combined score of the Panthers and the Buccaneers, which was 48 points.
We had three contestants nail the tie-breaker right on the money: Tommy Cloninger, Stevy Smith and Lonnie Neinast.
There were two games canceled this week, those being Springlake-Earth at O’Donnell and Virginia at Virginia Tech.
In the high school ranks, Littlefield dropped their homecoming game to Idalou on Friday, 35-6, while Sudan fell in a neutral site game at Floydada to Stamford, 38-0.
Amherst 45’ed Wellman-Union, 56-8, while Pampa blasted Denver City, 73-28, and Anton 45’ed Lorenzo, 49-0. Sundown won a shootout over Stanton, 34-26, and Post downed Abernathy, 26-7.
Estacado throttled Hereford, 41-6, while Dumas took down Levelland, 62-26.
In the college ranks, Notre Dame shutout South Florida in South Bend, 52-0, while Pittsburgh defeated Syracuse, 21-10. Miami took down Louisville, 47-34, while North Carolina State defeated Wake Forest, 45-42.
In the NFL, The Dallas Cowboys rallied back to win a wild contest over the Atlanta Falcons, 40-39, while the Titans edged out the Jaguars, 33-30.
The Ravens downed the Texans, 33-16, while the Rams took down the Eagles, 37-19, and the Colts defeated the Vikings, 28-11.
Floyd Trevino and Ivan Estrada finished 18-2 this week, while Donna Neinast, Ed Dabrowski, Floyce Pierce, Jan Smith, Johnny Rosemond, Junior Garcia, Kay Cloninger, Martin Duran and Oscar Sanchez each finished 17-3.
Those who finished 16-4 this week were Bobby Cunningham, Brenda Herrell, Dewayne Hayes, Larry Ashley, Lyndel Evans, Robin Elliott and Terrill Moorhead, while Charlie Smith, Devin Garcia, JR Herrell, Marcus Garcia, Nancy Smith, Sam Castillo and Teresa Dabrowski each finished 15-5. James Hood, Jimmy Davis Jr. and Thomas Blackstone finished 14-6, while Alma Castillo finished 13-7 and Ronald Williams finished 11-9.
In the overall standings, Lonnie Neinast remains in first place with 69 points, while David Neinast is a close second with 68 points. Grace, Tommy Cloninger and JR Herrell are tied for third with 66 points, while Minnie Trevino, Ivan Estrada and Kay Cloninger are tied for fourth place with 64 points.
Pierce is in fifth palce with 63 points, while Stevy Smith and Nancy Smith are tied for sixth with 62 points. Lee, Floyd Trevino, Jan Smith, Rosemond and Marcus Garcia are tied for seventh with 61 points, while Moorhead sits in eighth place with 60 points. Casas and Hayes are tied for ninth with 59 points, while Davis Sr., Donna Neinast and Junior Garcia round out the top 10 with 57 points.
