Lady Cats stumble against Lady Eagles

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell to Lubbock Christian High School on Tuesday, 0-2, at Wildcat Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 0-2 overall on the season.

The Lady Eagles were called for touching the net to open set one, but a kill attempt by Raegan Lee was hit out of bounds by Julie Bownds, tying the set, 1- 1. Raegan’s next serve landed out of bounds for LCHS, but they responded, as Alyssa Marquette sent a kill through the block attempt of Madison McNeese and Jessica Rojero, tying the set once more, 2-2.

LCHS would go on an, 0-4, scoring run, before Reese Bruington touched the net on a block attempt, trimming the lead to, 3-6. Bruington would respond with a kill on the back row for LCHS to regain the serve for the Lady Eagles and Kyla Snyder followed it up with an ace off of Abigail Ybarbo to push their lead to, 3-8. A kill by Marquette was tipped out of bounds by the Lady Cats, but Snyder’s serve on the following play sailed out of bounds, making the score, 4-9.

Linley Bruinton sent a hit into the net, but on the next play, McNeese’s serve was dug out by the Lady Eagles and tipped out of bounds by Kyndal Edgemon, making the score, 5-10. Marquette sent a serve short of the net, but LCHS would answer with a fourpoint rally to make the score, 6-14, as Littlefield took a time out to try and slow down the Lady Eagle’s momentum. Out of the break, Drew Grellhesl sent a serve out of bounds and Bryndle Ray followed it up with back-to-back aces for Littlefield to cut the lead to, 9-14.

LCHS though would close out the set on a, 3-11, scoring run to take set one, 12-25.

In set two, Callie Roberts delivered a kill in front of McNeese and Kat Dulin followed it up with an ace, before Bownds sent a kill off of the block attempt by Dulin to get the Lady Cats on the board, 1-2. Bownds served up an ace off of Marquette to tie the game, 2-2, but Roberts answered with a kill past Bownds to regain the lead and the serve for LCHS. McNeese sent a kill into the net and Marquette followed it up with a kill past Ybarbo, making the score, 2-5, before Lee’s serve fell short of the net.

Marquette would regain the serve for LCHS with a kill off of Ray and a double hit on the Lady Cats on the next play, pushed the LCHS lead to, 3-7. LCHS would go on a, 3-18, scoring run to take set two, 6-25.
