LADY CATS SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE AGAINST BUSHLAND

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball season came to an end in the Class 3A Area round of the Play-offs on Saturday, as they dropped game two to the Bushland Lady Falcons, 14-1.

With the loss, the Lady Cats end the season with a mark of 15-9 overall.

The Lady Falcons came to the plate to bat first in game two, as Kinley Jordan flew out to MyKenzie Price in center field for out number one. Jaycee Adams doubled to left field and took third on a past ball, before Brylee Adams hit an RBI-single into left field to make the score, 1-0. Brylee Adams stole second on a past ball before Abby Howell flew out to Brookelyn Gau in right field for out number two. Brylee Adams was able to tag up on the play and advance to third.

Jillian Howell hit an RBI-single to center field to extend their lead to, 2-0 and Charley Spinks followed it up with a two-run homerun over the left field fence to double their lead to, 4-0. Jayce Ornelas singled to center field, but Chloe Cochran was called out for batter interference to retire the side.

Price drew a lead-off walk in the home half of the first inning, but Cadence Sanchez lined out to Liz Wallace in right field for out number one, leaving a runner on second with one out. Brookelyn Gau singled to right field, as Price scored from second to cut the lead to, 4-1. But, Katelyn Gau grounded outt o Abby Howell at third base and Natalia Sanchez flew out to Wallace in right field to end the inning.

Both teams went scoreless until the top of the fourth inning, when Ornelas led things off with a single to Natalia Sanchez at shortstop to give the Lady Falcons a base runner. Cochran singled to shallow center field, but Wallace grounded into a fielder’s choice to Natalia Sanchez at shortstop, who got the out at second for out number one, leaving runners on the corners for Bushland.

Ornelas scored on a past ball to push the lead to, 5-1, as Wallace advanced to second on the play, and Jordan singled on an error by Natalia Sanchez at shortstop, as Wallace scored to push the lead to, 6-1.

Jordan stole second before Jaycee Adams hit an RBI-single into left fileld to make the score, 7-1. Brylee Adams singled on a fly ball to left field that hit the grass for a hit and Abby Howell reached base on an error by Golden in left field, as another run came into score, extending their lead to, 8-1. Abby Howell stole second, before Jillian Howell singled on an error by Golden in left field, stretching the lead to, 9-1.

Spinks ripped a two-RBI double into left field to extend the Bushland lead to, 11-1, but Ornelas flew out to Rodriguez at second base for out number two. Cochran reached base on an error by Natalia Sanchez at shortstop, making the score, 12-1, but Wallace grounded out to Tenorio at third base to re tire the side.

The Lady Cats were held at bay in the bottom of the fourth and the Lady Falcons added two runs in the top of the fifth, before holding the Lady Cats to no runs in the home-half of the inning to take the contest, 14-1.

Cadence Sanchez pitched a complete game for Littlefield giving up 14 runs on 15 hits.
