The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team was on the road on Saturday to close out the first half of district play, as they fell to the Shallowater Fillies, 0-3.
With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 17-10 overall, 1-3 in district play.
Shallowater’s Maci Moravcik sent a kill sailing out of bounds to open set one, but on the next play a tip by Mia St. Clair was dug by Madison McNeese, but no other Lady Cats reacted, as Shallowater tied the set, 1-1. Julie Bownds blocked Chloe McKinney for a kill, but Bownds’ hit on the next play sailed into the net making the score, 2-2.
Mia Goicoechea served up an ace off of McNeese and a hit into the net on the next play by Mylie Hernandez pushed the Fillies lead to, 2-4. Bownds answered with a kill off of the block attempt by Shelby Roberts, but Roberts responded with a kill for the Fillies, making the score, 3-5. McNeese sent a hit sailing out of bounds and Kynlee Shields delivered a kill in front of Kennadi Hanlin to push their lead to, 3-7.
Roberts delivered a kill in front of Bri Valdez, before Riley Klatt sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 4-8. Bownds followed it up with an ace before sending her next serve out of bounds, pushing the Fillies’ lead back out to, 6-9. Saylor Williams sent a kill off of the block attempt by Kenzi Jordan, but the Fillies were called for touching the net on the next play, trimming the lead to, 7-10.
Goicoechea delivered a kill off of Abigail Ybarbo and Kyndal Edgemon was blocked by St. Clair and Moravcik for a kill to push their lead back out to, 7-12. St. Clair delivered a kill at the net off of a long dig from Hanlin, and Avery Terrell served up an ace to extend their lead to, 7-14. Goicoechea kept it going with a kill off of the block attempt by McNeese, but on the next play, Hernandez was blocked by St. Clair, however the ball landed out of bounds for a Littlefield point, making the score, 8-15.
Bownds sent a kill off of Goicoechea and McNeese tipped the net for an ace, before St. Clair delivered a kill on the back boundary line to push their lead to, 1016.McKinney delivered an ace in front of McNeese, but Edgemon responded for Littlefield with a kill between Roberts and Moravcik’s block attempts, trimming the lead to, 11-17.
A hit by Roberts was partially blocked by Bownds, before falling in front of Hanlin for a kill, however the serve on the next play by Goicoechea sailed out of bounds, making the score, 12-18. Shallowater would close out the set on a, 1-7, scoring run to take the set, 13-25.
Littlefield fell into an, 0-5, hole to open set two, before Terrell sent a serve out of bounds to make the score, 1-5. The teams exchanged kills and Roberts spiked a kill at the net off of a long dig from McNeese to extend the Fillies’ lead to, 2-7. Goicoechea served up an ace off of McNeese, but Bownds answered with a kill in the back corner and on the next play, Roberts came across the net on a save attempt trimming the lead to, 4-8. Valdez served up an ace in front of McKinney, but Mia Moore ended the run with a tip for a kill to stretch their lead back out to, 5-9.
Tatum McKinney delivered an ace in front of Hanlin and Valdez was called for a double hit on the next play, extending the lead to, 511, before Tatum McKinney’s serve fell short of the net, giving the serve back to Littlefield. Shields delivered a kill in front of Bownds, but the next serve from Roberts fell short of the net, making the score, 7-12. Edgemon sent a hit into the net and McNeese sent a hit sailing out of bounds, stretching the lead to, 7-14, before Williams sent a hit into the net for the Fillies, giving the serve back to Littlefield.
A hit by Edgemon was partially blocked by St. Clair, before being hit out of bounds by Tatum McKinney, but a block by McNeese on Goicoechea landed out of bounds, making the score, 9-15. Shallowater sent a hit out of bounds, but the kill attempt on the next play by Edgemon also sailed out of bounds, making the score, 10-16. Shallowater would close out the set on a, 3-9, scoring run to take the set, 13-25, putting them in front, 0-2, in the match.
Littlefield started set three in a, 1-5, hole, before a hit by Kaeleigh Logan was tipped out of bounds by Chloe McKinney to trim the lead to, 2-5. Bownds tipped a ball out of bounds, but on the next play a save by Valdez was hit out of bounds by Jaycee Benton cutting the lead to, 3-6. A hit by Roberts fell short of the net for the Fillies and Moore sent a hit out of bounds on the next play, slicing the lead to, 5-6.
Sheilds sent a kill past McNeese to regain the serve, but it was short-lived, as the serve from Anaby Fleming fell short of the net, making the score, 6-7. Shields delivered a kill off of the block attempt from McNeese and Edgemon, but McNeese responded with a kill off of Brianne Watts to make it a one-point game, 7-8. McKenzi Cook touched the net on a dig attempt to tie the set, 8-8, but Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as Bryndle Ray’s serve fell short of the net, putting Shallowater back in front, 8-9.
McNeese landed across the net on a kill attempt and a hit byt Ybarbo was too close to the net for Ray to play, but on the next play, Goicoechea sent a hit short of the net, making the score, 9-11. The fillies were called for four hits after a hit by Klatt didn’t make it over the net, but a hit by Edgemon on the following play sailed out of bounds, making the score, 10-12.
Shallowater went on a, 0-9, scoring run before a hit by Edgemon was tipped out of bounds by Chloe McKinney to make the score, 1119. Goicoechea delivered a kill for the Fillies, but a hit by Moravcik landed out of bounds and Valdez followed it up with an ace to trim the lead to, 13-20. Shields answered with a kill past Hanlin, but Cook’s serve on the next play was short of the net, making the score, 14-21.
Bownds’ serve was short of the net and McNeese was blocked by Klatt for a kill, but McNeese responded with a kill off of Moore and Klatt to make the score, 15-23. Benton delivered a kill in front of Ybarbo, but McNeese delivered a tip at the net for a kill to trim the lead to, 16-24. Klatt sent a hit out of bounds and Ray delivered a kill off of Fleming to cut the lead to, 18-24. A hit by Moore sailed out of bounds and a tip by Klatt didn’t make it over the net, cutting the lead to, 20-24.
Shallowater would put the game away, as Benton delivered a kill off of Ray to take set three, 20-25, and the match, 0-3.
The Lady Cats were at Dimmitt on Tuesday for a non-district match-up with the Bobbies. Results were not available at press time. They will begin the second half of district play on Saturday with a road trip to Idalou to take on the Lady Cats.
