Lady Cats fall to Shallowater on senior night, 0- 3

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team had their senior night spoiled by the Shallowater Fillies on Tuesday, falling at home, 0- 3.

With the loss, the Lady Cats close out the regular season with a mark of 19-13 overall, 26 in district play.

Littlefield found themselves in an, 0-2, hole to open set one, before a long dig from senior, Abigail Ybarbo, floated over the net and landed on the sideline for a kill, off of the hit from Maci Moravcik, making the score, 1- 2. Shallowater would answer with a, 10- 0, scoring run that ended when Mia Goicoechea sent a kill sailing out of bounds to make the score, 2-12.

Julie Bownds was called for being in the net as she went up to defend a hit from Moravcik, but a hit on the next play by senior, Jessica Rojero, was dug into the net by Chloe McKinney, making the score, 3-13. Kynlee Shields delivered a kill over Bri Valdez, but on the next play a hit from Bownds was hit out of bounds by the Fillies, trimming the lead to, 4-14.

The Lady Cats could not capitalize, as Bownds’ serve sailed out of bounds and a tip on the next play from the Fillies was hit out of bounds by sophomore, Mylie Hernandez, making the score, 4-16. Shelby Roberts and senior, Kaeleigh Logan, each sent a serve out of bounds, and a kill attempt by Goicoechea sailed out of bounds, making the score, 617.

Saylor Williams was blocked by junior, Kyndal Edgemon and Hernandez for a kill, but freshman, Bryndle Ray, sent a hit into the net on the next play, pushing the lead back out to, 7- 18. Hernandez responded with a kill over Mia St. Clair and Goicoechea and Bownds followed it up with a tip over St. Clair for a kill, cutting the lead to, 9-18.

Shallowater, though, would close out the set on a, 7- 2, scoring run to take set one, 1125.

The Fillies opened set two on a, 3- 0, scoring run, before Bownds sent a kill past Brianne Watts to gain the serve for Littlefield. She followed it up with a kill past the block attempt from Roberts, but the Fillies answered, as Goicoechea sent a kill off of senior, Kiara Wright to make the score, 2- 4.

Rojero delivered a kill in front of the block attempt from Roberts, but Roberts answered with a kill past junior, Kennadi Hanlin, and McKenzi Cook followed it up with an ace off of Logan to stretch their lead to, 3- 6. Shields sent a hit into the net, but Williams came right back with a tip over junior, Kenzi Jordan, for a kill making the score, 4- 7.

Roberts’ serve fell short of the net and on the next play, Cook was called for a doublehit, trimming the lead to, 6- 7. The Fillies would respond, as Williams sent a kill past Ybarbo, however, Cook again was called for a double- hit on the next play, making the score, 7-8. Williams sent a kill off of Ray, sparking a fourpoint rally for the Fillies, that ended when Avery Terrell sent a serve sailing out of bounds to make the score, 8-12.

Wright’s serve sailed out of bounds for Littlefield, but Shallowater couldn’t capitalize, as Roberts’ hit landed out of bounds, making the score, 9-13. The Fillies answered with a, 4- 0, scoring run, forcing Littlefield to take a time out, trailing 9-17. Out of the break, Jaycee Benton’s serve sailed over the boundary line, but the Fillies would proceed to close out the set on an, 8- 4, scoring run to take set two, 13- 25.

In set three, Moravcik dropped a tip out of bounds for the Fillies, but Goicoechea responded with a kill off of senior, Alex Hernandez, tying the set, 1- 1. A save by Terrell didn’t make it over the net, putting the Lady Cats back in front, 2- 1, but Logan had her tip blocked by Moravcik and the second chance hit was hit out of bounds by Bownds, making the score, 2-2.

Goicoechea served up backto- back aces, before sending a serve short of the net to make the score, 3- 4. Shields delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Jordan sparking a, 5-0, scoring run for the Fillies, making the score, 3- 9, before Mia Moore sent a hit out of bounds to trim it to, 4- 9. The teams exchanged several points before a dig by Ybarbo landed out of bounds, making the score, 8- 12. Hernandez delivered a kill for the Lady Cats, but Shallowater answered with a kill of their own, pushing the lead to, 913. The Fillies went on a, 4- 0, scoring run to push their lead to, 9- 17, before a hit from the Fillies landed out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 10-17.

Terrell was called for being across the net for the Fillies, but the Lady Cats couldn’t capitalize, as they sent a hit out of bounds, making the score, 11-18. Shallowater delivered a block for a kill, but Goicoechea’s next serve sailed out of bounds, making the score, 12-19. Roberts delivered a kill off of Hernandez, but Bownds responded with a tip, that was hit out of bounds by Goicoechea, trimming the lead to, 13-20.

Shallowater would close out the set on a, 5- 0 scoring run to take set three, 13- 25, and the match, 0-3.

The Lady Cats will be at Tulia on Tuesday for their Bidistrict match- up with the Bushland Lady Falcons.

First set is scheduled to begin at 6 p. m.
